Old Town Square - This is worth a slow meander as it's the centre of life in the city. A truly beautiful historic square lined with ancient buildings, shops, cafes and most thing to see for the visitor are close to this centre.
Wawel Castle - This is the city's fortification located in the centre of town. The ceiling is bizarre, decorted with 194 plaster heads. The 16th century castle is worth walking around and you can learn the fascinating history of the town.
Isaac's Synagogue - Built in 1640 and has been on this site since 1640, but was totaly destroyed during WW2. The Jewish population in the city was huge before the two wars just about wiped them out. There is a exhibition with old photos of the Synagogue and Polish ghettos and a film.
Wawel - Centrally located on the hill of the same name, this imposing mansion was the seat of Polish royal families since the 11th century. In 1609 Austrian troops used it and finally it awas open to the public in 1930. Magnificent interior with furnishings to match. |

Chlopskie Jadlo - Located at Stare Miasto in the old town, don't come here for stylish interiors, but good old fashioned Polish dishes, served on plain wooden tables in a building resembling a barn. Great atmosphere to meet people and try traditional dishes.
Ariel - You will find this restaurant in the central area of Kazimierz. The whole area has not changed much since between the wars. They still serve traditional Jewish cooking like Momma used to make, but unlike her it is not kosher. Take a trip back to the 30s (Mind you the whole city could lay claim to that)
Cherubino - This unique restaurant is in the old city and you can dine in converted horse - drawn carriages. The perfect place for a romantic tete a tete. The cuisine is an interesting mixture between Polish and Italian dishes. Quality is the byword here and prices are good.
Cyrano de Bergerac - One of the classic French restaurants in the old city. The walls are covered with tapestries and the vibe is of an upmarket castle. Superior dining and a good wine list make this a charming experience. |

Paparazzi- This is the place to drink if you are a British or American ex pat. There is always a party spirit among the throngs of people eating and drinking. The cocktails are very popular, so pop in for a G and T and stay the evening.
Klub Kulturalny - An old town bar that attracts a sophisticated clientele. Locals who want to see and be seen flock here. The decor matches and it's a great place to mingle with the beautiful people.
C.K. Browar - This vaulted cellar is easy to find at ul. Podwale 6-7, A dining and dancing place that attracts an older clientele, not that young people don't come here. You are welcome to sip cocktails at the bar and then join the disco.
Rentgen - The old towns pub that is all action whenever you come here. Located in an underground cellar and as the thumping music and booze penetrates bodies, people become wilder and it sometimes ends up as a massive party. |

Hala Targowa - Sunday morning is the time to come to this weekly antiques market. Though not strictly antiques, the knowledgeable buyer might find a bargain or two from the huge selection. A good place to find eastern European memorabilia.
Ofir - Specialising in jewellery in the old town's shopping street. Anyone who admires well made jewellery will enjoy browsing or buying a piece from this extensive shop. There are some unusual hand made items among the mass produced jewellery.
Brama - This is thee perfect shop to purchase a unique gift made locally. Traditional Polish dolls, pottery, candles and hand crafted teddy bears are always popular. You should be able to find something for everyone here. |
