Archaeological Museum – In Samos town known also as Vathy, you will find this first class museum behind the municipal gardens. Consisting of two buildings housing mainly sculptures, with the highlight being a 5 mitre high Kouros, which means a boy (this is a big boy)
Ancient Pythagorion – A bus ride from town is the former capital of the island, probably unrecognisable to the world famous mathematician Pythagoras from its heyday in the 6th century BC. Take a map and use your imagination as to what must have been happening here then. Much to discover here including an ancient tunnel and rock pier, there is also a small museum.
Manolates, Vourliotes and Stavrinides – These picture postcard hill towns in the Platanakia district make a marvellous day away from the beaches. Scenic walking trails between the towns take in valleys, gushing streams, forests and vineyards. |

Christos – In the capital at Pl. Pythagoras you will easily find this popular taverna. Sit back with a traditional Greek meal and some local wine and watch the world go by from one of the outside tables.
Gialos – Located on the southwestern end of the island lies the beautiful fishing village of Ormos, this unpretentious friendly diner serves delicious local delicacies. Why not help the fishermen pull in the nets and then choose your lunch.
Flavour Restaurant – On a promontory overlooking the sea at Votsalakia is this casual restaurant/bar decorated extensively with bamboo. Serving tasty snacks and drinks under a large canopy, linger on till nightfall when it becomes a swinging party spot.

Mikes Place No 4 Bar – A long winded name, but I assume Mike wouldn’t mind you calling his great bar 4 short.awesome sound and late night atmosphere adds up to a lie in most of the next day
Totem Disco – Starting early in the morning and a short taxi ride outside of Samos Town, located on the mountain side with no neighbours to complain about the noise. If you are still with us at the sunrise, then contemplate for a moment or two before the hangover sets in.
Escape – One of the most popular bars in town. Head off with the young hip set on the way to the Pythagoras hotel. With it’s good drinks selection and fabulous chill out patio over looking the bay. Don’t leave town till you’ve been here!

Micro Seitani – The north of the island is blessed with the choicest beaches, and for this one you can either take the boat or about a 45 minute hike for the fairly fit, but after all that effort you can cool down in the clear blue waters of the Aegean, lie on the sand and admire the beauty around you.
Tsamadou – West of Kokkari, like many beaches on the island consists of pebbles and sand. Nudists are welcome on the far side. The shops and Cafes are just a stroll away hence it can get crowded in the height of summer.
Psili Ammos – Arguably the best beach on Samos on the west side of the island a few kms from the village of Marathokampos. Beautiful sandy stretch backed by fragrant bushes. |
