HANNOVER LOCAL HISTORY
Hanover’s past was marked by its dynastic links with the UK as the 1701 Act of Settlement resulted in George Ludwig of Hanover becoming George 1 of the UK in 1714. Because of this unusual marriage the city found itself attacked on a number of occasions by foreign powers striking at the UK. The city later came under Prussian control and benefited from the Empires prosperity.

However World War 11 ended the good times and Allied bombing raids flattened 60% of the city. Hanover bounced back and today has a vigorous economy and is Niederersachsens cultural and political capital.
