MONTPELLIER ATTRACTIONS Add your favourite attraction
Musee de l’histoire de Montpellier - Place Jean Jaures. Dating back to Roman times, the crypt was first built as part of the St. Marie church in the 10th century. In the 12th century a new church was built in its place. Now that it has been restored, it offers a virtual tour of the past in Montpellier. There are video and audio representations as well as modern techniques through which the City’s history can be uncovered.

Saint Roch Church - The church of Saint Roch was built on the site of the former church of Saint Paul, the roofless apse of which still remains. Built in the 19th Century neo-gothic style, it houses the relics of the saint who cured plague victims, and whose name it bears.

Saint Mathieu Church - Built by the Dominicans in the early 17th Century, this church offers something of special interest. It contains some remarkable pieces of furniture, such as the maitre d'hotel reredos, from 1674, and a considerable collection of paintings.

Musee de l’infanterie - Located at Ecole d’Application de l’Infanterie, this museum houses the history of the infantry from 1480 until today. On display are uniforms; documents; and historical objects. There are also sound tracks; videos; slide shows; and a memorial room.

Roule Ma Poule - 20, place Candolle. This restaurant is set in one of the most tranquil and sunny city centre squares, the numerous outdoor tables are popular during spring afternoons and summer evenings. Inside there is a fascinating collection of motorbike paraphernalia. They serve a range of excellent local dishes.

Les Cigales - 1, rue des Teissiers. This is one of the most popular seafood restaurants in the town, serving a range of local seafood dishes, and is very popular with the locals and tourists alike. Prices range from $18.25 - $30, which includes an appetizer, entree and desert. The food is excellent and the service great.

Maison de la Lozere - 27, rue de l'Aiguillerie. This excellent restaurant with a magnificent vaulted dining room and pleasant courtyard terrace serves a range of delicious local cuisine. Excellent country cooking and a high standard of service are the priority at an establishment proud of its culinary tradition. Lunch costs around $24, and is well worth the money.

The Blue - This coffe shop, located just off the main pedestrian area, is a great place stop for a bite to eat and a chance to take a break from all the sightseeing. They serve delicious deserts and some light meals, the portions are very large. This coffe shop is popular amongs tourists.

MONTPELLIER BARS & CLUBS Add your favourite bar & club
Bar du Musee - This bar lies just behind the Musee Fabre on the corner of Rue du College and Rue Montpellieret. This bar is always a pleasant place to have a drink and there are occasional exhibitions. Enter alone and you are more than likely to leave with new found friends. The prices here are very reasonable.

Bougalou Cafe - Located at Esplanade de l'Europe. This karaoke bar is very popular with the locals and tourists alike. If you feel like singing along to your favourite tune, this is the place to come to. It is an ideal venue for private parties, wedding receptions, and stag nights. They serve a wide range of cocktails and the prices are reasonable.

Bistrot des Halles - 6, place Jean-Jaures. This is one of the best and most popular nightclubs in Montpellier. Here you'll find a friendly, enthusiastic staff and a 20-something clientele partying to a background of Latin sounds in the daytime and house music at night. Different DJ's take their turn every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

MONTPELLIER BEACHES Add your favourite beach
Plages du Petit et du Grand-Travers - This long stretch of sand between Carnon and the Grande Motte is the most easily accessible beach by car from Montpellier. The beaches are extremely popular during the summer months and there are many vendors and parked vans for a variety of snacks and refreshments.

MONTPELLIER PARKS & GARDENS Add your favourite park & garden
Les jardins de l’esplanade - Found at Esplanade Charles-de-Gaulle. This is a walk shaded by the many plane trees, filled with pools; fountains; games areas; and seats to take a break on. On the right is the Champs de Mars, a former military terrain converted into a public garden in 1900. This park is verypopular with the public.

Le jardin des Potiers - This Medieval archaeological garden is set around the remains of the 13th century Saint Esprit church. Recently the site was occupied by a potters' workshop. The kilns are reflected in the design of the tram stop and some artifacts are on display in the lift shaft leading to the Esplanade.

MONTPELLIER CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES Add your favourite children's spot
Parc zoologique du Lunaret - 50, avenue d'Agropolis. This zoo covers 80 hectares and contains over 100 different indigenous and exotic species. The spacious enclosures and vegetation allow the animals some privacy. A little patience is amply rewarded by the possibility of seeing zebra, antelope, camels and even cheetah in a habitat of woodland and scrub. With 9km of paths to explore and several picnic sites, the zoo allows a relaxing yet active and educational visit. Admission is free.

Seaquarium - BP 106, Palais de la Mer. There are over 200 marine species from around the world on display within large aquariums at Seaquarium. The main attraction is the shark enclosure. Measuring 21 metres long and 4 metres deep, a glass tunnel allows one a disconcertingly close look at several shark species. There is a lot on offer here to keep the kids busy for most of the day.
