BURGUNDY ATTRACTIONS Add your favourite attraction
Cathedrale St-Etienne - Auxerre, This extraordinary Gothic construction is in the heart of Auxerre and is a local landmark. The original stained glass is to be marveled at and you can visit the crypt for the remains of the original Roman church. In the summer they organise a sound and light show pointing to the churches history.

Musee des Beaux-Arts - Palais des Ducs, Dijon. One of the best collections of original art and sculpture in the country. Located in a magnificent palace, which is worth the trip alone. Most of the exhibits date back to the 15th century and this is a must visitor attraction.

Basilique Ste-Madeleine - Vezalay's and one of Frances most famous Romanesque style churches. This is a massive consruction which was started in the 12th century. If you like your old churches and their history then be prepared for a fascinating hour or two.

Musee de l'Hotel-Dieu - Located in the street of the same name in Beaune. The building itself has a long and colourful history and the artworks are classic Flemish and local art with a few gems on display. Don't leave town without a tour of this building.

Musee du Vin de Bourgogne - Rue d'Enfer, Beaune. The museum is dedicated to the rich history of wine making in the region. The area is World famous for it's ruby red Burgundy wine and a visit is not complete without a trip to cellars, but if you can't make it then this is well worthwhile. Plenty of ancient winemaking equipment is on show as well as a comprehensive history lesson.

Domaine Maurice Protheau - Chateau d'Etoyes, Mercurey. Located 40km southeast of Autun is one of the best wineries in the region. They do a free guided tour of the cellars and of course offer their wine to purchase. This is the heart of Frances wine country and you'll find no better cellars to explore.

Hostellerie de Levernois - Route de Verdun-sur-le-Doubs, Levernois. This magnificent mansion set in a 8 acre park offers a dining experience that cannot be topped. They have gourmet afficianados returning time after time for the exquisite cuisine. They have their staple dishes and change the menu occasionally. Fabulous decor coupled with outstanding service makes for a first class dining adventure. Situated just 3km south of Beaune.

A la Cote St-Jacques - 14 Faubourg de Paris, Auxerre's top restaurant located on the beautiful Yonne River. This top of the range establishment is not cheap, but well heeled locals and visitors come for the consistantly high standards of fresh food, great service and sophisticated decor. The food is French, modern and ac creative use of local ingredients.

Les Capucins - 6 av. Paul-Doumer, Avallon, This restaurant is an institution in the town and is a short walk from the centre. Specialising in Burgundian country cooking at a reasonable price. Warm friendly interior gives way to homely decor and first class service. The food is pretty good as well.

Joel Perreaut's Restaurant des Gourmets - 8 rue Puits-de-Tet, This stylish restaurant can be found just 9.5km south of Dijon in an ancient little village. The menu is strictly French and the extensive wine list is brimming with local designer brands. Take your time here as the food is made to be savoured and eaten slowly.

BURGUNDY BARS & CLUBS Add your favourite bar & club
Le Cintra - 13 av. Foch, Dijon. This is the centre of nightlife in the town. Offerring a piano bar upstairs for the more mature crowd and a small intimate disco downstairs. This is enjoyed mainly by couples for a romantic evening.

Le Rio - 9 av. Marechal, This popular disco has the crowd on their feet dancing to a mixture of chart hits and golden oldies. If you like your dancing all night, then try this place, great bar to drink your troubles away.

Cotton Bar - 164 route de Dijon, A firm favourite in Beaune that quickly gets crowded with a 30+ clientele. Rock classics mixed with some contempary jazz is the order of the day here. Locals love the joint as a prelude for the discos of replacement.

Opera-Night - Rue du Beaumarche. I doubt if the DJs here will play much Opera, but they churn out head banging beats all through the night. This is strictly for the younger crowd who love to get down and boogie. Large dance floor, well stocked bar and state of the art disco decor makes for a fun night and morning.

BURGUNDY SHOPPING Add your favourite attraction
La Boutique Maille - 32 rue de la Liberte, Dijon is known Worldwide for its mustard and this shop is dedicated to the condiment. This is a lovely shop and the mustard makes for the ideal present for people who don't appreciate good wine.

Les Halles Centrales - Rue Odebert, Dijon. This market operates on Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays in the morning and offers the freshest local produce, Meats, regional cheeses and wines compete with the mustards of the area.

Route Touristique des Grands Vins de Bourgogne - You will find out about this top wine route through any tourist office in the area. Enjoy a trip through rich and fertile country areas, pretty, historic villages and beautiful scenery. Visit the wineries to sample some of the best, but if you are driving, be careful!.
