| This town originated as an ancient Roman settlement in the 2nd century, passed through many rulers-the Goths, the Byzantines, the Franks and ended up a Venetian possession. The city had to survive Roman persecution of the Church, maurading pirates, plague- to name but a few hardships! Amazing remains are to be found of all these influences in this harbour town. |

Basilica of St Euphrasius - travel back to the time of Christian martyrs and Imperial Rome as you pass through the chapel and baptistry.This monument to past glory dates back to the 6th century and contains priceless gold and mother of pearl mosaic murals.
Porec Museum - aptly situated in the old Roman Rd of Dekumanus with many Roman and early Christian artifacts on display.
Roman Temples - visit the Western end of the old town to see what is left of the temples dedicated to Neptune and (possibly) Mars |

Istra - 30 Milanovica- Traditional hearty meals served from 11am to midnight, a firm favourite with the locals.
Kool Ilva - Obala M Tita 1a- Enjoy a scenic 40km drive to Vrsar for lunch or dinner between noon and midnight. The exellent truffle and fish dishes are worth the trip. |
