DUBROVNIK LOCAL HISTORY
Founded around the 7th century by the refugees fleeing from Epidaurium (now Cavtat), Dubrovnik has a treasure trove of history within its medieval walls. The Byzantine, Hungarians and Venetians left their wealthy legacy here and in the middle ages it was almost Venice's equal as a trading seaport.By the look of those fortressed walls merchants took protection of their wealth seriously.

DUBROVNIK ATTRACTIONS Add your favourite attraction
City fortresses and city walls - Fed up with all the plundering looting by greedy neighbours the citizens had no less than 5 fortresses and a wall of nearly 2 km built to keep themselves safe.Take a walk on top of the 10th century walls which had to withstand bombings as recently as 1992. They are still standing-they don't build them like that anymore!

Onofrio Fountain - enter the city through Pile gate and admire this huge fountain built in the 15th century.

Dominican Monastery - this imposing building houses the Dominican Museum and possesses many treasures- such as rare Venetian art collections from the Middle ages.

Sponza palace - brush up on your medieval knowledge by a visit to the official State Archives, now housed here.Peruse various historical documents dating as far back as the 12th century.

DUBROVNIK RESTAURANTS Add your favourite restaurant
Proto - Siroka ulica 1- Try the famous local wines with tasty traditional fish recipes passed down from Dubrovnik fisherfolk. King Edward VII has dined here so the service should be fit for royalty.

Jadran - Poljana Pasca- Situated in the cloister of convent of St Clare, the ambience and food should be "good". Bless your stomach with a good meal from 10am to midnight.

Nautika - Brsalje-Speciality fish dishes in ye olde city area, think classy, elegant and pricey- for that special evening out.

Latino Club Fueg - Brsanje II- Razzle and dazzle to techno music.

Esperanza - Put Republike 30- live it up every night at this popular hot spot.

DUBROVNIK BEACHES Add your favourite beach
St. JAKOV beach - Old city-mix with the locals on this pebble beach that has a restaurant and bar a pebble's throw away. LAPAD beach - Lapad bay- sandy beach with plenty of shade and nearby playgrounds for the kids.

DUBROVNIK SHOPPING Add your favourite attraction
Lapad Pensinsula and GruzHarbour - for the shopaholics needing shopping centres. Wander down the main road Stradum and browse in the old city for a souvenirs -buy a tie or fountain pen for someone special: Croatia is where these everyday items originated.
