BRELA LOCAL HISTORY
Originally the Roman settlement of Berulia -as noted in the 10th century records of Constantine Porphyrogenitus. The area was ruled by Bosnia during the Middle Ages. This quiet, attractive port does not have the flashy Roman ruins of surrounding areas but does possess great natural beauty and is the starting point of the Makarska Riviera.

Imotski - take a 40km day trip across the mountain to Imotski, famed for its wine production.

Medieval necropolis - next to the parish church cemetery- the site of eight old tombstones adorned with reliefs of shields & swords.

Island of Hvar - The Renaissance town of Hvar is a day excursion away (15 nautical miles) by boat .Wander around this Croatian "Madeira" thereafter the vintage Dalmatian wines of Jelsa beg to be quaffed.Try to find your way back to the boat afterwards!

BRELA RESTAURANTS Add your favourite restaurant
Arca - Obala Kneza Domagoja 4, - Local specialities include a mixed grill and seafood. Try them from 12 for lunch and until 11pm for dinner.

Eremitaz - Priko, Stari Grad, Hvar- Travel to nearby Hvar island to be lulled by the sea view during lunch on the terrace (12- 3.30pm) or a romantic dinner under the stars from 6.30pm to midnight.

Konoba Galinac or Katara - Brela- Drink a bambus or bevanda (diluted wine) and mix with the locals at one of these local konoba (taverns).Konoba's offer good traditional food in a relaxed setting with lunch from noon to 2pm and dinner from 8pm.
