San Jose - Most visitors to Costa Rica spend some time in the cosmopolitan capital San Jose because it is the main transportation hub of Costa Rica. It has a North American air about it, with fast food outlets, department stores and shopping malls. There are also several very good museums, fine restaurants, and atmospheric markets.
Playa Tamarindo - This beach is one of the most popular in Guanacaste. attracting as it does keen surfers and holidaying Costa Ricans. It stretches for a couple of kilometres over a number of rocky headlands and apart from surfing is a good place for windsurfing and snorkelling.
Parque Nacional Marino Las Baulas - Droves of leatherback turtles come ashore here to lay their eggs between October and February. Turtle tours are run in nesting season and are a very enjoyable experience.
Parque Nacional Rincon de la Vieja - Here you will find a volcanic environment of craters, lagoons, boiling mud pools, sulphur springs and hot springs, that draw tourists in droves. You can bathe in the springs or go walking and horse riding. The Costa Rican government has been working hard on its parks and wildlife for over forty years and this has paid off in terms of well-preserved ecosystems and excellent National Parks

Arco Irís - This vegetarian restaurants boasts are very large menu, the food is good and the prices quite reasonable.
Blue Maxx Cafe – This is the ideal place to have breakfast as the American breakfasts on offer are good and very filling and the coffee is excellent. The freshly made sandwiches and salads provided at lunchtime are very tasty.
Pachanga – This is the place to go for an intimate, candlelit dinner. The good menu includes tasty curry and BBQ ribs.
Panadería Francesa Bakery – Come here for delicious fresh croissants, apple flan, pain au chocolat, pizza and waffles all ideal to take away for breakfast.
Stella's – there is a large Italian population in Tamarindo and this is one of city’s best restaurants. They serve really good Italian pasta and fresh fish cooked in delicious and unusual sauces. There is even a wood-oven-baked pizza oven on site.

Zullymar – This bar/restaurant has a fabulous location, just on the beachfront. It is an extremely popular place to have a drink while watching the setting sun. They also serve very good food here.
Capitan Suizo – ( www.hotelcapitansuizo.com). Try the cocktail bar in this upmarket hotel. The atmosphere is laid back and friendly and the views are lovely.
Pasatiempo – The bar in this hotel is incredibly popular and not the place to go for a quiet drink, as in the high season the noise volumes is pretty stunning. However if you are looking for a lively evening out, then this is definately the place for you.
