Liberia - The Provincial capital is located in the heart of the province. The city is spacious and gracious with it's tree lined avenues, landscaped central park. The city also has many little shops, cafes and restaurants. The Church of La Ermita La Agonia houses the city museum that can boast a very interesting history in itself. Nicoya Peninsula - Some of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica are located in the north of the province. It can take some time to get here as the roads are bad, but thats the beauty of this paradise. The weather is tropical and there is a rainy season, but it will rarely drop below 20c.
Arenal Volcano National Park - One of the top attractions in the country is reachable in a four wheel drive. This is an active volcano, but you are welcome to hike the lower slopes. Fantastic landscapes, flora and incredible views combine to capture the best of nature. The Tobacon hot springs is the perfect place to relax in a choice of a dozen hot pools fed from the volcano.
Childrens Museum - Calle 4, San Jose. Lots of fun to be had here for the little ones with interactive displays. They learn about the way things work while having fun. There is also a nostalgic display of ancient toys.
Santa Rosa National Park - Named after a 15 minute battle in 1856. There is a small museum commemorating the fact, but the park is a nature lovers paradise. The huge area has a great mix of terrain including stunning beaches, forest and savanah land. Over 250 species of birdlife, 3,200 butterfly species, mammels, reptiles and all manner of insects.The park is just 35km north of Liberia and camping is allowed on 4 sites.
Ostional National Wildlife Refuge - Situated on the western side of the Nicoya Peninsula and including a large protected sea reserve. This is the nesting site for the olive ridley crab and they are to be found in great numbers on the beach. The bird life is extensive and exotic.
Rincon de la Vieja National Park - Just a 45 minute drive from the capital is this volcanic park. 4 by 4 is the only way of getting here apart from walking. Bathe in the many hot volcanic pools and observe boiling cauldrens of mud and smoky streams coming from the peak. The landscapes can be moon like and you can hike to the cloud forest to the mountains nine craters. You can hire a horse for the experience of a life time. |

The Eagles Inn - Rodney Bay, Santa Lucia, This is one for the yachties as you can pull it up to the marina and order your food and drinks. The fish is a speciality and fresh, and there is a well stocked bar at the marina. The tasty food is served with some unusual vegetables. Good value and choice.
Hummingbird Restaurant - Souffries, Located just outside St Lucia on the south coast. Honest to goodness cooking and a menu that constantly changes. Warm, friendly service, good food coupled with the perfect seafront setting, makes for a fine culinary experience.
Capone's - Rodney Bay, Castries, St. Lucia. You'll be transported back to the 30s in this stylish diner. The theme is Gangland and the waiters dress the part. Italian food dominates and the home made pasta is superb. There is a more laid back place next door serving pizza, pasta's and burgers.
Pizzeria Pronto - Calle 1, Liberia, This rustic restaurant serves filling Italian food in a Costa Rican atmosphere. Popular with the locals who enjoy the tasty food and the prices are very reasonable. Located just a couple of minutes walk south of the church. |

Shamrocks Pub - Rodney Bay. You thought you had escaped Irish pubs, but they have imported them even to Costa Rica!. A cosy place with the black stuff flowing as well as traditional pool tables and dartboards. Good place to meet ex-pats from the U.K.
Waves - Choc Bay, Castries. Great local hang out that is lively all hours. Why not try your hand at Karaoke which is popular here. They have a well stocked bar and serve cocktails. Catch the live music which sometimes happens at the weekends.
Indies - Rodney Bay. One of the best night clubs in St Lucia. Great dance floor and acoustics combine to get even the most hardy up and moving their body. Top DJs turn up the volume and you will not want to leave till the wee hours. Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday are the nights. Popular with locals as well as visitors. Hot, Hot, Hot. |

Local Craft Shop - Guyatil, As you enter the town from Santa Lucia, this is the 1st 'shop' and unmissable on the right side of the road. The tented shop contains a pottery, where one can watch the potters form the clay and create their decorative and useful items.
The finished products make unique gifts or a memento.
