FALMOUTH LOCAL HISTORY
Falmouth was founded by the great-grandfather of the famous British Poet, Elizabeth Barrett-Browning, Falmouth emerged during the sugar boom of the 18th century and became a living museum of 19th century Georgian architecture, with its old buildings which have been preserved and restored over the years. It is also the ideal place for a walking tour, with its well laid out streets, following a grid.

23 miles to the east of Montego Bay lies the sleepy port town of Falmouth, the capital of the parish of Trelawny. This is the social capital of the island and one of its major commercial centres in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Established in 1790, Falmouth is the best-preserved Georgian town on the island, complete with wandering donkeys and goats.

Luminous Lagoon - At Rock, just beyond Falmouth is the amazing Luminous Lagoon, which is one of the most spectacular wonders to be found in Jamaica. The water becomes luminous when disturbed and then one sees the outlines of water creatures as they swim around.

Martha Brae - A beautiful tropical river, with its source in the Cockpit Country and its mouth at Falmouth. This is about 30 minutes drive from Montego Bay. Falmouth Courthouse - this is the grandest building in town, a Georgian courthouse constructed in the Palladian style in 1815, with the courthouse being guarded by cannons on each side. The present building is a reconstruction after a devastating fire in 1926.

Market day - on Wednesday mornings Falmouth hosts the biggest flea market in the country, with hundreds of booths on display overflowing into the streets.

Arawak Caves - these ancient dwellings contain paintings and artifacts from Jamaica’s first inhabitants.

Good Hope Plantation - a coconut and cattle plantation that’s a testament to a former era with trails for horseback riding.

Jamaica Safari Village - a unique Caribbean zoo.

FALMOUTH BARS & CLUBS
Time 'n' Place - funky beach bar built of driftwood located just east of Falmouth. Available here are reggae music from the local stations, the island's best daiquiris, made from fresh local fruit or peppery jerk chicken or lobster.

FALMOUTH BEACHES
Starfish Trelawny beach - popular resort by the same name located here.

Along the coastal road to Ocho Rios, one will find Silver Sands, Fisherman’s Beach, Time N’ Place, and Trelawny Beach. Each beach has a unique character and atmosphere.
