NEW DELHI LOCAL HISTORY
Historical evidence suggests that Delhi has been settled for over 2500 years. Since the 12th century, the city has seen the rise and fall of seven major powers.

When the British ruled India they decided to make Delhi the capital in 1911 and built “New Delhi”. During the traumatic partition of India, the city was torched and transformed from a predominantly Muslim city of less than a million residents to a largely Hindu city of almost 2 million.

Since independence the city has prospered, the result of this has however meant increased traffic congestion and pollution.
