Gateway of India - This monumental landmark saw the conquering British enter the land hundreds of years ago and make their exit in 1947 on independence. Standing guard at the entrance to Mumbai, the building is most impressive when lit up at night and is a hub of tourist activity with its gardens and impressive accompaning colonial buildings. Take a boat trip around the waterfront or a leisurely walk down the Apolla Bunder promenade where snake charmers perform and hawkers entice with their wares or services.
Prince of Wales Museum - This is a splendid museum that does justice to its rare collections of sculpture, miniature paintings and other specimens of Eastern art.
Victoria Terminus - Head for the station to see this wonderful ornate Gothic building with spires, stained glass and all the other elaborant decorations beloved of the Victorian era.
Kala Ghoda - Take a walk into history past the Wellington Fountain and pompous colonial buildings such as the High Court and Army & Navy buildings, this area is a cultural island that contains much of interest such as the National Gallery of Modern Art and Bombay University.
Elephanta Island - A boat trip away from Mumbai this island has a range of caves that were used as ancient temples in around 6 AD. Full of amazing carvings dedicated to Brahmism and Shiva, this mystical site has been declared a world heritage site and is well worth a visit. |

As to be expected of a coastal city many of the traditional dishes are seafood such as squid, lobster and prawns. These are often cooked with coconut and spices to make a delicious curry. The flat pomfret fish is a regular on the menu and is often served steamed in banana leaf. Dhansak, which is a meat and lentil dish, is also popular in this region
Unusual vegetables such as sour kokum, jackfruit and the scarlet banana flower are favourite delicacies and coconut features in many meals and desserts. |

Apoorva - Noble Chambers. Everything is scrumptious at this restaurant which specialises in seafood. Highly recommended are the prawns or crab and the Kerala region seafood dishes.

India is famous for its beautiful textiles, jewelry and perfumes.
