The Portuguese founded Casablanca, but it was never a very important town. The French came into Morocco in the beginning of the 20th century, and Casablanca’s status improved drastically.
The old cities of Fes and Marrakech started to loose their importance in the commerce industries and many of the merchant families moved to Casablanca, knowing that the real money was to be made on the coast.
The role that Casablanca played during World War II was important. It was the place where Presidents Churchill and Roosevelt met in 1943 for the allied summit.

Place Mohammed V – Located in the centre of Casablanca. Place Mohammed V also known as Place des Nations Unies is one of the best examples of French Colonial Architecture in Casablanca, and is strongly influenced by art deco. Place Mohammed V is absolutely gorgeous.
Hassan II Mosque – Located at Casablanca. The Hassan II Mosque is one of the biggest in the world and also one of the most expensive. Approximately $800 million went into the project and the Moroccans have contributed to the construction of the Mosque in terms of a tax that was imposed to help in the construction of the buildings. An entrance fee is charged to enter the Mosque.

Tagine – This Moroccan meal is made from spicy meat and vegetables, which have been simmered together for hours in a conical clay pot, and is one of the best known Moroccan meals.
Couscous – This meal is made from semolina grains and steamed in a colander-like dish referred to as a couscoussiere and is the staple food for the Moroccan population.
Kaliya – This Moroccan meal is a popular Berber contribution to the Moroccan cuisine. Kaliya is a combination of lab, tomatoes, bell peppers and onion and is served with couscous or bread.
Besara – Besara is a thick glop (soup) made from peas and olive oil and is a traditional breakfast in Morocco.

Al Intissar – Located at 14 Rue Chaouia, Casablanca. Al Intissar is located in the centre of town and serves great Moroccan style cuisine. The food is delicious and not too expensive.
A Ma Bretagne – Located at Sidi Abderrahman, Casablanca. A Ma Bretagne is one of the best restaurants around, and is located just 2 kilometers west of Ain Diab. The cuisine is absolutely delicious and not as expensive as it would be elsewhere. The restaurant is closed on Sunday and the month of August.
Taverne du Dauphin – Located at 115 Boulevard. Houphouet Boigny, Casablanca. Taverne du Dauphin specialises in seafood, and is one of the best seafood restaurants in town. It’s a bit on the expensive side, but well worth it.

La Bodega – Located at 129 Rue Allal Ben Abdallah, Casablanca. La Bodega is a Spanish pub, which has great food and excellent music. If you want to boogie the night away, then I suggest that you come to La Bodega.
Don Quijote – Located at Bd Houphouet Biogny, Casablanca. Don Quijote is the place to go if you want to find the real drinking scene in Casablanca. The atmosphere is great and the people are here to have a great time, and you can see this with the vibe of the place.
Palm Beach Club – Located in Aid Diab, Casablanca. The Palm Beach Club is for those of you who are serious about beer. This establishment has a fun and exciting atmosphere. For entertainment, there are belly-dancing shows, which are a hit.

Ain Diab – Located in Casablanca. This beach has many beach clubs, which line the oceanfront, like Le Tonga, Miami or Tahiti. The beach itself is really quite enjoyable, and perfect to sit and enjoy the day.
Bouznika – Located between the major cities of Casablanca and Rabat. This beach has become on of the trendiest beaches and golf resorts in Casablanca. It attracts the local weekend and summer tourists. Bouzinika is the ideal destination for people who wish to combine great golfing and a fabulous beach in an unique Moroccan experience.
Agadir – Located southwest of Casablanca. Agadir offers long, wide beautiful beaches with gorgeous white sand. There are various sea sports on offer and you could even rent a camel and go for a ride along the beautiful beach.

The Houbous – The Houbous offers a great variety of crafts and typical Moroccan shops where you can buy all you need and even find that special gift for the important person back home.
The Old Medina – Located in Casablanca. There are excellent shopping opportunities in the medina where the narrow streets lead to various souks and bazaars, which sell almost anything you can imagine. This is the perfect place to find something to remind you of your time in Casablanca.
