Restored Andalucian farmhouse with large private swimming pool in a stunning situation. Set in lovely unspoilt countryside between 2 tiny mountain hamlets. Very spacious, tastefully appointed and comfortably equipped. Breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding scenery, Lake Vinuela and, in the distance, the Mediterranean. Guests can explore the 3 acres of grounds, with huge old olive and holm oak trees, lots of terraces at different levels, all with different views and comfortable outdoor seating, and mature gardens shaded with grapevines and scented climbers, jasmine, hibiscus and bougainvillea. Abundant wildflowers, butterflies and birdlife. Your own private paradise! La Amapola is half an hour from the beach and an hour from both Malaga and Granada.
AccommodationThe farmhouse is very spacious and has been tastefully renovated in traditional Andaluz style, with polished terracotta floors, exposed beams, handmade tiles and whitewashed walls. The interior is cool and airy even in high summer, thanks to the high ceilings with ceiling fans and the numerous sets of french doors leading out to the terraces and gardens. The house has a very individual feel with lots of little artistic touches. Look out for the lizard motifs, the handmade mosaics and the gorgeous miniature perfume bottle collection.
On a more practical level, the house is beautifully appointed and equipped and offers every modern comfort and convenience, including the most fabulous kitchen-diner (55m2) complete with range style oven, huge chrome fridge and, for the keen cook, masses of cookbooks and specialist cookware.
OutsideThe farmhouse and pool are set in 3 acres of private land, mainly olive and almond groves, with some fruit trees, including pomegranate, apricot and peach, a number of huge holm oaks and a well stocked herb garden. Guests can help themselves to fruit as well as lemongrass, mint, laurel and more. The kitchen and lounge lead out onto vine-shaded terraces, with comfortable outdoor seating and a large table for dining alfresco. Upstairs, the main bedroom has french doors leading out to a roof terrace with wonderful views. The downstairs bedroom opens onto a pretty enclosed courtyard with climbing roses, ivy and wisteria.
The large pool measures 10 by 5m, and is surrounded by a terrace with 6 sun-beds, a pool shower and a large cane-shaded canopy. The pool features underwater lighting and the pool terraces can be floodlit at night, should you fancy a moonlight dip!
Coast/Beach
The nearest beach is Torre del Mar at 25kms - about half an hour's drive. This is a typical Spanish beach resort with sandy beach and beachside promenade with numerous ice-cream parlours, cafes and some wonderful seafood restaurants.
Nerja beach is 40kms away, about 45 minutes drive, a very pleasant and pretty resort with cliffside beaches and little sandy coves and beachside walks, plus interesting shops and some inviting bars and restaurants.
Golf
There are numerous local golf courses within half an hours drive on the coast. The Breviera golf course is an 18 hole course only 25 mins drive from the house.
Skiing
Skiing is available during the winter months at Granada's Sierra Nevada, an hour and a half's drive. |

La Amapola is located 25kms inland between Malaga and Granada, only an hour��s drive from both. The nearest village is Periana and the nearest town Velez-Malaga. Seville, Ronda, Cordoba and Nerja are all accessible for a pleasant day trip or a relaxing night away.
Both Malaga and Granada airports are easily accessible from Amapola. (Malaga 55kms and Granada 65kms).
Budget airlines serving these airports include Easyjet, Ryanair, Monarch and BMIbaby. Iberia and British Airways also offer regular and frequent daily flights.
Car hire is essential and there are numerous car hire companies, including Hertz, Avis, Europcar, Hellehollis and malagacarhire.
We recommend shopping around for the best deal as prices often vary quite dramatically.
With its subtropical climate and gorgeous unspoilt scenery, the local area is ideal for outdoor pursuits including hillwalking, birdwatching and swimming. Horseriding, tennis and mountain bike hire are all available at the nearby Villa Turistica de la Axarquia, 10 minutes away on foot. There are numerous golf courses within half an hours drive on the coast, and skiing in winter at the Sierra Nevada.

Andalucia is famous for its lively nightlife and colourful fiestas; carnival in February, Semana Santa in March/April and in Periana the annual peach fiesta, the olive oil fiesta and the feria of San Isidro during the summer months. Neighbouring Alcaucin holds a small but prestigious flamenco festival in August. |

| Welcome Pack: A welcome pack, house book and local information leaflets are provided for guests convenience. For families with small children access to the pool can be closed off when required. There is a wide selection of childrens books, films and board games at the house. The house can accommodate up to 8 using the platform and/or single folding bed and/or cot - please ask for details.
Use of the pool, gardens, terraces and all facilities are reserved entirely for the sole use of guests. The caretakers cottage is on site and is completely self contained, with a separate and private entrance, driveway and parking place, and its own gardens and terraces. The caretakers visit the house to water the plants twice a week and clean the pool, and are on hand to offer help or advice if required. |
