Chez Jules - 69 Northgate Street. The menu here offers vegetable cassoulet, Toulouse sausage, or rib-eye steak which all come with dauphinois potatoes. The food is good and the prices are very reasonable.
The Mediterranean Restaurant - 1 Rufus Court, off Northgate Street. The restaurant is located in a lovely Georgian house, which has a lovely courtyard garden. The food includes a wide range of tapas, paella and pasta and the prices are reasonable.
Ruan Orchid - 14 Lower Bridge Street. The enormous menu offered here concentrates on Thai food from across the country.
Ristorante Sergio - 87 St Werburgh Street. This is the place to come if you want good pizzas; they also serve fish and vegetarian dishes.

Boot Inn - Eastgate Row. This pub can be found in the upper gallery, it has a back room where fourteen Roundheads were killed during the English Civil War and a high-backed seat once used by local prostitutes..
Old Harkers Arms - 1 Russell Street. This real-ale pub is located in a former warehouse by the Canal side.
Albion Inn On the corner of Albion and Park streets. This is a genuine Victorian pub located in a terrace near the 'Walls'. The 'pub grub' is excellent.

The Boat House - The Groves. A pub situated by the riverside and full of black and white prints of nineteenth-century fishing families. They serve an excellent selection of ales.
