Lucerne Travel Guide
There are a number of shopping opportunities throughout Lucerne. If you're looking to buy some souvenirs of your trip the best places to go are Manor, Nordmann & Co., Weggisgasse 5 and EPA, Roessligasse 20. Both of these department stores sell a wide range of goods including a collection of Swiss Souvenirs. If you're looking for some traditional Swiss music boxes, the place to go is Hofstetter & Berney, Schweizerhofquai 6. On the first saturday of every month you can go to the Weinmarkt, where a wide range of local arts and crafts are on sale.
Lucerne Restaurants and Bars
Hofstube - Sankt-Leodegar-Platz 3. This is one of the best restaurants in town, and it is located in the Hotel Zum Rebstock. The restaurant is very popular with tourists, and it serves a wide range of German; French and Swiss dishes. This is the place to go to sample some of the best of the local cuisine.
Rotes Gatter - In the Hotel des Balances. This is another excellent restaurant in Lucerne and it is popular with locals and tourists alike. The restaurant is housed in the former town jail that dates back to 1329 and was converted into a restaurant in 1519, which has been flourishing eversince. They serve a wide range of Austrian; Swiss and German dishes at reasonable prices.
Wirtshaus Galliker - Schuetzenstrasse 1. This excellent restaurant is housed in an old house that dates back to 1681, and the restaurant itself was opened in 1800. This is a great place to sample the best of the local cuisine at reasonable prices. They serve a wide range of Austrian; German and Swiss dishes, whcih are very popular with locals and tourists alike.
Lucerne Bars & Clubs
Mr. Pickwick's Pub - Rathausquai 6. This Brittish pub, in the old Town, is a great place to go if you want to have a few beers. The pub is popular with a mixed crowd of locals and tourists, and always has a festive atmosphere.
The Loft - Haldenstrase 2. This is the hottest night club in town, and is popular with the younger crowd of locals and tourists. This is the place to go if you're looking to party all night long. DJs play a mix of all the latest dance music from around the world to keep the party going.
Casablanca Bar at the Hotel Schiller - Pilatusstrasse 15. This bar is a great place to go if you're looking for a slightly more relaxed and romantic evening out. Here you can sip on some cocktails, while enjoying some good conversation. The bar is very popular with tourists in their 30s and 40s.
