Bern provides numerous shopping opportunities throughout the city, the main shopping streets are Spitalgasse; Kramgasse; Postgasse; Marktgasse; and Gerechtigkeitsgasse. If you're looking for souvenirs; gifts and handcrafts, the best place to go is Oberlander Heimat, Kramgasse 61. It is located on a historic street near the Clock Tower, and sells a wide range of Swiss handcrafts, including textiles; wood carvings; music boxes; and jewelry.
Bern Restaurants and Bars
Gaumentranz - Gerechtigkeitsgasse 56. This hip new restaurant is very popular with locals and tourists alike. They serve a wide range of Swiss and Continental dishes, including shrimp with lemongrass, strips of asparagus, and raspberry vinaigrette;and pink chicken breast served with salsa verde, galettes of black rice, and spring vegetables.
Wein & Sein - Muenstergasse 50. This is one of the most fashionable restaurants in Bern, and is popular with the arty locals and tourists. They serve a wide range of Austrian; German; and Swiss dishes, and is a great place to go to sample some of the best food in town. The prices are a little above average, but the dining experience is well worth the extra money.
Goldener Schluessel - Rathausgasse 72. This traditional Swiss restaurant is very popular with locals and tourists alike. They serve a wide range of Austrian; German; and Swiss dishes, including mignon d'agneau au poivre vert; schweinbratwurst mit zwiebelsauce; and roesti.
Bern Bars & Clubs
Samurai Club - Aarbergergasse 35. This is the most popular gay club in Bern, and is frequented by a younger crowd of locals, women are also welcome. This is a great place to go if you want party all night long and meet some of the locals.
Marians Jazzroom - Engerstrasse 54. This is a great place to go if you're looking for a slightly more relaxed night out. The Jazzroom is very popular with a mixed crowd of locals and tourists who share a love for jazz music. The club features live performances from top jazz musicians from around the world on a regular basis.
Kloetzlikeller - 62 Gerechtigkeitsgasse. This is the oldest wine bar in Bern and is very popular with a mixed crowd of locals and tourists. This is a great place to go and expreince Switzerland at its best, while meeting some new people. Here you can sit back and sample some of the best wines in Europe.
