Ciutadella Local History
Ciutadella was originally called Jamma - being named by the Carthaginians. It was previously known as the capital of Menorca untill the 18th century when it was moved to Mohan by the British. It does however remain the exclusive religious capital of Menorca.
Ciutadella has a beautiful little harbour which consists merely of a narrow inlet, which is also one of the Mediterranean's smallest ports. The narrow streets of the old city are completely littered with noble mansions dating back to the 17th and 18th century. There are also numerous old churches which are worth while attractions.
