Albufeira Attractions

Top Attractions

Albufeira Castle - Most of the castle was destroyed by an earthquake in 1755, But the remains of this moorish fortresss are an interesting collection of walls and rooms. Around the town you will find much evidence of the Moorish occupation in the archetecture and many churches and chapels.

Zoo Marine - A great family outing is to be had at this fine zoo to the north of town on the N125. There is not only regular animal shows, but a fairground, pool, play area and restaurants in a huge area with plenty of places to picnic.

Slide and Splash - Located just north of the town on the N125. Plenty of tubes, slides and rapids to keep the whole family happy for a day. This facility is large and doesn't get too crowded. There are plenty of grassy areas for enjoying a snack from the cafe.

Albufeira Church - This church is a landmark in the old town and the tall bell tower overlooks the area. Most of the town was destroyed by the earthquake in 1755, but they rebuilt this church. It's a lovely neo-classical building and the airy interior is dominated by the painting from the local artist Samora Barros over the alter.

Resturante Bank Bar Lovely place, lovely staff, great DJ!!!!! Rosie does fantastic cocktails & Bruno, Marco really good door men`! Nuno good manger, Hugo very very very good DJ. I can’t wait to go back out there and spend every day with them, especially Hugo. All the staff work really hard to keep all the customers happy. The bands that play there are really good too. Me and my family like groove line.

The Carnaval Bar The carnaval bar is at the top end of the strip in the square across from John's bar. A hidden jem, it caters fo families and younger people. You can't but have a good time. The staff are great, there is karaoke and free internet, Xbox and just a great party atmosphere.

Stones Bar My family and I were walking through the strip and saw the 'Stones Bar'. It was nicely decorated for the Brits, with football tops plastered around the walls and a giant TV at the front that only showed football, Peter Kay and big brother. Great for the families and the pool table is cheap.

Cockerel Country Kitchen Best food in Albufeira. Just off the Strip, turn at the corner where the Jade Chinese restaurant sits, go up that road, sits on the right hand side. Great food, service, good portions and value for money.

Merlins Bar Right on our first day we walked into Merlins Bar in the old town of Albufeira. Everybody made us feel welcome and when we left we felt that we were already part of the Merlins Bar Family! We spend a big part of our holidays there.... starting with breakfast (best in town AND served with a smile!) ending with a night singing songs and getting a good pint! Worth a visit, you will enjoy it!

Albufeira Beaches

Fisherman's Beach - Lies conveniently at the end of the street of bars. Just be careful where you sit as you might find the remains of someones meal last night. There is a vollyball court and you will find many beautiful bodies posing. It is large enough to find a quiet spot on the soft smooth sand.

West Beach - Located on the other side of town to Fishermans beach and close to all the town's facilities. Can get crowded, but not as Fishermans. The sand here is fine and stone free, sea is perfect for swimming and though in town is crystal clear.

Marihna Beach - Just out of town on the road to Portimao. This is a very interesting beach full of little coves among spectacular rock formations. This is fairly sheltered and great for swimming, tanning and snorkelling among the outcrops of rock that attracts colourful sea life.

Carvoeiro Beach - Also on the road to Portimao, this is a bigger expanse of sand overshadowed by high cliffs. Good for quiet sunbathing and if you get bored, its possible to take a boat to explore local caves.
