Lille Zoological Gardens - In the gardens around the Citadelle, you'll find Lille's really well-run city zoo. It plays its part in conservation by breeding rare and endangered species in captivity, without capturing specimens from the wild. Since 1991, it has been transformed into a modern zoo where numerous births show it is succeeding in its aim of giving its animals a spacious living environment where they can feel at home.

Manoir de l'Estracelles - Located at Rue de l'Estracelles. This manor dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries. Located in the manor are two 18th Century barns, and historical monuments, surrounded by rare birds and plants not native to the area. This is a great place to relax and take a break from sightseeing around town.

Jardin des Plantes - Found on the south side of Lille, this is a great place to take a relaxing walk through this beautiful garden. Open to the public since 1948, it has a stylish greenhouse displaying tropical plants from South America, housed in an all-year round tropical heatwave.

Aux Moules - 34 rue de Bethune. The best restaurant in Lille to eat mussels and it's been serving them since 1930 in its Art Deco-style interior. Nothing costs much over $12, including the other brasserie fare, and it's all excellent value. It is very popular with locals and tourists alike and is highly recommended.

Le Compostelle - 4 rue St-Etienne. This trendy restaurant in a renovated Renaissance palace, with its designer furniture and conspicuous olive-tree has some unusual dishes, such as turbot in beer. The food is excellent and the menus are reasonably priced, $25 - $42.

Paul - Place du Theatre, cnr rue Faidherbe. Paul is one of the most popular restaurants in Lille and here the boulangerie, patisserie and salon de the, are all under one roof. There are various good breakfast menus served throughout the day, but the main reason to come here is to taste the delights of the patisserie.

Club le 30 - 30 rue de Paris. This is one of Lille's best jazz venues, and it probably attracts the best artists. It is very popular with locals and tourists alike, and is a great place to start off experiencing the nightlife that Lille has to offer. The prices here are very reasonable and the atmosphere amazing.

Le Smiley - 2 rue Royale. This funky cocktail bar in the basement is open every evening except Sunday, there's a reliable cybercafe on ground floor. It is very popular with the trendy locals and tourists. It is a great place for a more relaxed night out, sipping some cocktails and meeting new people.

Les Trois Brasseurs - 22 place de la Gare. Dark, smoke-stained dining stalls surround copper cauldrons in this genuine brasserie that brews its own beer. They serve food as well, but it's the beer that's the main attraction. This bar is a great place to relax and sample some of the excellent beers on offer.
