Les Arcs Ski Information
General information
The top level (1950) of the resort has some interesting local shops, but walking seems to be the No 1 activity with the scenic Vanoise National Park enjoying plenty of marked trails through forest and clear mountain streams. On you way up Col des Frettes for stunning panoramic views you can visit Fernand's hut on route, to try his local cheese. Try to be there at 4pm when the cows are milked. The village of Bourg St Maurice is a lovely ride in the funicular and is a pretty traditional village. A eco-museum is located in Chal-Hauteville-Gondon and there is a unique mineral museum for crystal fans. If you worry about your children while you are away from the resort, then don't as they are probably having the time of their lives at the Childrens village.

Apres-ski
Plenty of choice in the eating department at all the levels and catering for all tastes and pockets. The bars and pubs at the top level are the classiest, but that's taking nothing away from facilities at the other levels and Bourg Saint Maurice further down. Try the popular Cafe Sol at Arc1600 for live music, or Jungle Cafe (Not many of those at ski resorts) at Arc1800, even Le J.O. at 1800 can be a laugh. For a quieter night, try the cinema at Place du Soleil to brush up on your French.
Overview
Les Arcs 1950 is a man made ski village in the Paradiski region. The American company found a real paradise when they discovered the area just below the Aiguille Rouge, and overshadowed by Mont Blanc. The new name for the area aptly describes the skiing, which although beginners are catered for , it's popular with the more accomplished skier. There is also a snowpark and the shopping facilities and nightlife are lively. Arc 1950 is the top (In more ways than one) for shopping facilities, but 1800 is not far behind. Night skiing, snowshoeing, telemark and the ever popular sleigh rides are available. The village of Bourg St Maurice is a funicular ride down the mountain, or 15km by road.
