General information

The village is charming to stroll around and you can spend a morning admiring the buildings such as the Bulb church tower and the many small chapels and take coffee in one of the atmospheric cafes. There is a market on Wednesday that offers the local Reblochon cheese among other local delicacies. You can arrange to visit the small chapels with a guide from the tourist office , the Bornandin Heritage Association is located on a farm in the village and you can choose a guide to give you a tour of life in the area 100 years ago. They hold plenty of special exhibitions throughout the year. For the keen walker there are several well marked footpaths around the village.

Apres-ski

The choice of restaurants in the village and at height ranges through the full gamut from French country style, sophisticated dining and fast food. There is about the same choice of bars with some based in hotels, but you could just go for a quiet drink after a hard day on the slopes or one of the livelier pubs. The nightclub "Le Baron Noir" is located near the village at Pont du Venay, Chinaillon and is great fun for the younger skiers who have the energy to bop till they drop.

Overview

Le Grand Bornand is a small resort in the Aravis Pass Area that has been kept in the traditional style. The skiing is well suited for beginners and those who have skied before, but might not hold much for the experienced. There is a good snowpark and several halfpipes. You can board on all the pistes. 56km of cross country and snowshoeing, telemark and skidoos are available. The apres ski scene is lively with about 70 restaurants and bars and a couple of clubs for dancing. La Clusaz is close by for a quiet day away from the piste.
