The town has many sporting facilities for a different activity from skiing. If you still enjoy the outdoors there are plenty of well marked hiking trails and an ice rink. Going indoors there is a good bowling alley and all round sports centre. Cluses lies at the foot of the mountain range just a short drive away. The pretty town is renowned for it's watchmaking and has a fascinating museum dedicated to watch and clock-making. The beautiful banks of the river Arve are a pleasant stroll and to relax at one of the riverside cafes is a nice diversion.

Although Chatel is a small resort the variety or nightlife is surprisingly good with over 20 restaurants and bars, and a couple of nightclubs. For dining Les Cornettes is a great place to try as they serve traditional, wholesome French country style cooking. The bars tend to be quiet affairs and Le Tunnel is a good meeting spot, but knowing French would help in your quest for good times here.
Chatel is pleasantly tucked away in a valley of the area known as Portes du Soleil. Very popular with the French holidaymaker and do's not get as many outside visitors as some of it's neighbours. So this would be a good place to practice your schoolboy/girl French. Everything about the resort is traditional and the family would enjoy a break here even though it's a bit on the quiet side. The low altitude means that you sometimes have to go elsewhere for deeper snow. The resort offers a good variety of runs and the beginner is well catered for.
