The Area (Very quiet)
The cottage is located within a small hamlet on the site of the first water powered mill in the Colne Valley. It is south facing within the sheltered, wooded valley, Merrydale, and at the end of a secluded cul-de-sac. This is an ancient, cobbled pack horse road and, apart from the sound of falling water, the property is quiet and rural. Merrydale, designated as a Site of Scientific Interest, is a beauty spot and its abundant bird life includes dippers, kingfishers, herons and sparrow hawks. Foxes are often seen and a deer was recently sighted.
The television series, 'Where The Heart is' is set in the nearest village. Near the Pennine Way, Marsden Moors (National Trust), Standedge Tunnel, and within easy reach of a wide range of attractions. 6 golf courses within 5 miles. Also ideal for bird watchers, gardening enthusiasts and hikers.
