The house is in the village of Polopos in beautiful wild hilly countryside. Polopos is a small village in the Alpujarras, a region of hills between the Sierra Nevada mountains and the sea, south of Granada. The village is set on 800m high hills, about 6 miles from the sea (on a good winding road ), and about 3 or 4 miles away as the crow flies. It is about 20 mins drive from the coast, which here is almost completely undeveloped. There are no golf courses, discos, theme pubs etc.
As it is so high up there are spectacular sea views, (on some exceptionally clear days in winter you can see the African coast), and there are massive hills, deep valleys, olive and almond trees, orange trees, vines and goats. You can walk over the hills down to the sea in about one and a half hours. If you enjoy country walking, you can find descriptions of 4 walks around Polopos on (walks 4692-3695).
The house is a restored traditional cottage-style house, with wooden beamed ceilings and terracotta tiled floors. It has three rooms and a shower room downstairs, and two rooms upstairs, one of which opens onto a terrace about 12 feet square with a bamboo sunscreen and a panoramic view of the hills and sea.
There are two bedrooms, one has a double bed and one a single bed. It has all basic amenities : electric hot water, shower,fridge, a cooker run from butane gas, and a wood-burning stove. It is furnished rather simply, not luxuriously, and in a traditional style. The chairs are comfortable cane ones. There is no TV or washing machine (though washloads can be arranged to be done). The house is probably more suitable for younger or at least able-bodied people as there are steep streets in the village and steep stairs in the house. The thick walls keep the house cool on hot sunny days.One a half hour's drive to the historic city of Granada and the Alhambra.
