“Cork Oak Cottage” is built in the grounds of the historic “Real Fabrica de Artilleria de Carlos III”, (Royal Artillery Factory), which produced canon balls for the great siege of Gibraltar 1779 - 1783 and for the Indies wars. It overlooks the River Hozgarganta which supplied power, via a dam and canal, to drive the great wheel for the bellows of the blast furnace.
An outside ‘patio and sheltered garden with swimming pool and barbecue’ make it an ideal summer holiday home and due to ‘central heating throughout, double glazing, log fire and own garage’ a very cosy winter retreat with plenty of interesting places to visit.
We are on the route of the famous White Villages of Andalucia so it is a wonderful centre point for many pleasant day trips or excursions. Algeciras, the main port for North Africa, is only 45 mins. drive so a day visit to Tangier or Ceuta is possible. Gibraltar is very historic and well worth a visit.
This attractive area is away from the commercialism of the Costa del Sol but close enough to visit the lazy warmth of the Mediterranean, the wilds of the surfers’ Atlantic and a whole range of sporting activities, sailing, diving, wind surfing and horse riding, are all easily accessible and it is a bird-watchers paradise being on the main migration route Good local food is available within walking distance of the house. A larger selection of restaurants abound in the town and surrounding area and also at the coastal fishing villages where, in summer, there are bars and discos on the beach. |
