The Haven is a small guest house in rural Normandy, France, offering B&B and Self-Catering accommodation. We have renovated an old stone farmhouse, to provide comfortable accommodation, whilst retaining many of the original features. The house is in an elevated, peaceful setting, south-facing, with an acre of garden and beautiful views. It is situated on the outskirts of a small hamlet, in unspoilt, rolling countryside, halfway between St Lo and Mont St Michel. The nearest market town is Villedieu-les-Poeles, less than 15 minutes away. In addition to Bed and Breakfast and Self Catering accommodation, we can offer the following additional facilities, if booked in advance, and subject to availability:
French Lessons
Use of yoga/meditation room
Relaxation Therapies (Massage, Aromatherapy, Reiki, Indian Head Massage) Help with house-hunting, planning applications etc.
We are located within easy access to the A84 motorway, all the channel ports, and the D-Day Landing Beaches.

| Our house is in the small, friendly hamlet of Le Mesnil Sauvage, with the village of Montbray about a mile away.
It is dairy farming country, with gently undulating hills, green valleys, and many lakes and rivers - an area of great natural beauty.
Villedieu-les-Poeles, the nearest market town, is less than 15 mins. drive. This is a bustling, colourful town, which is particularly well-known for its copper workshops, some of which date back to the 12th century.
In addition, there are pewter, lace, pottery, and clock workshops, plus a bell foundry, all of which are open to the public. The town has been called "le fleuron du patrimoine artisanal normand" (the jewel of Norman artisanal heritage).
There are many shops, cafes and restaurants, and every Tuesday morning there is a bustling outdoor market in the centre of town. |

| Guestbook: This has been the most relaxing holiday I've had! Nice walks and drives, beautiful area and friendly people. I will definitely be returning to the Haven In summer it must be the most relaxing place …my room is lovely, Frances! Food is gorgeous and everything has been as I hoped. Peace and some time alone. Here's to later on in the year. Goodbye till next time.

As welcoming as home, with none of the usual stress of vacation. Any thoughts of our trip to France will include happy memories of the Haven. Thank you for this warm, quiet and friendly space.

Even the weather couldn't dampen the warm welcome we received when Frances came to our rescue in Montbray. We have had a wonderful four days, lots to see, and yet still managed to get plenty of rest. We did over-indulge at the pattiserie, but what the heck ! Thank you Frances for the lovely meal you cooked for us and we wish you lots of luck for the future. You are doing what most of us are not brave enough to do !

This has been a grand finale to our French adventure. Our time here will be long remembered as a special highlight of our trip. The "At Home" feel of the Haven, with all its beauty, made it very delightful. We do enjoyed our visit with you - thanks for the time you gave us. We met many friendly and warm people along the way, but you two were the greatest. Wishing you many years of healthy living here in this very special place.

Lunch in the garden was perfection - good food, good wine, and a great view - what more could you ask for! The food is excellent and so is the company. Many thanks for your advice and the warmth of your hospitality. As potential residents in Normandy, it gave us a flavour of what life could be like when we leave the rat race!

The Haven was all that your website said and more. You have done so very much to make one feel at home. If your aim is to welcome, you have totally succeeded by way of accommodating my needs - over and above any expectations. I have thoroughly moulded with the rural countryside - its beauty, sounds, its flora and fauna. The "simple" meals have been gourmet vegetarian - marvellous! The gite was a perfect space to relax and collapse into. My deep and sincere appreciation for your attentiveness and kindness.
Affectionately, Josette Gocella. (France/USA)

What a wonderful setting! We are very envious. The gite was excellent for our needs, giving us full flexibility in our efforts to find our own "Haven". Hugh and Frances - you were great hosts and we will especially remember the hospitality and friendship (as well as the advice) afforded to us. We will definitely keep in touch, and hope to return later in the year. Thank you!

What a lovely 2 nights in your beautiful home. We enjoyed the garden and the view immensely. The hammock was a highlight for the kids, of course, but your welcoming spirit was for us. Thanks so much for your warmth, smile and the restful time you blessed us with!

Peace and quiet and lots of laughs! That makes for a wonderful break. Beautiful green scenery. All that's missing is a windmill - or is it? Thank you Frances and Hugh. Get ready - I might be back!

Lovely setting - very quiet. Wonderful breakfast. Our visit was too short - maybe next time we'll rent the gite and spend more time in the area.

Thank you for a lovely night, and especially for not recoiling in horror as two drowned rats on a motorbike appeared out of the rain! It was a real pleasure to be made to feel so welcome.

Good Morning wonderful world ! Well, that's how this place makes you feel. Tranquil - just great. Everyone's so helpful and pleasant. I'm sure England used to be like this once. We must come again and probably buy here. A huge thank you to Frances who has looked after us so well.
