San Jose Shopping
Sheer size and large tourist numbers make San Jose cheaper than most of the other Costa Rican towns. The area of Moravia, once engulfed by coffee plantations, is now home to streets lined with souvenir shops selling everything from Cuban cigars, woven bags, jewelry and the tipico ox carts, once characteristic of Costa Rican country life. A family-run leather shop offers brief factory tours where the machinery dates back to the Second world War.
