Campsite anarchy
This campsite should be lovely – great location, nice mature trees – but it’s run by incompetents and has absolutely no security. We stayed here in early July and on the third night had our tent slashed open while we slept and bags were stolen. At least we woke up and scared the thieves off before they really went through everything. Other guests were not so lucky and had the robbers in their tent while they slept and woke up to find everything gone. The site owner was dismissive and rude when informed of the robberies the next morning – there was no-one to find during the night. The thief had entered the site through a gate at the rear of the site, which was supposed to be locked. More galling was that the proprietor learned nothing from the experience and the gate was wide open again the following nights and the campsite was full of local youths for the offensively loud disco. Loud music is fair enough if the majority of campers are involved, but most at the beginning of July were people with young children, or those with children who have left home and can holiday outside school hols, so the only people dancing (two) kept the entire campsite annoyed until nearly midnight. There is loud entertainment every night. Other annoyances were the closure of the washing up blocks, and most of the showers between 8pm and 10am – not very helpful. Showers too small, and have no hooks so all clothes and towels get wet. The main road runs alongside and is very noisy – all night, but at least the petrol station on the road sells cold drinks, which is lucky as there’s no shop on site. Nice pool, but that’s the best that can be said. The owner seems to think that all she should provide is a field, and she fails in her duty of care.
