If you are looking for a friendly, comfortable guest house in a convenient and unique location, Ahmet Efendi is the place to stay.

It was my first trip to Istanbul, so I had little knowledge of the city beyond what I had read in travel guides and heard about from friends and colleagues. I knew I wanted to be in Sultanahmet, near the main tourist sites, but had business in town as well. I almostly randomly selected Ahmet Efendi Evi (though I had read some reviews on Trip Advisor), and was I ever lucky. The owner deeply cares about the satisfaction and comfort of his guests; he is gracious and very hospitable. He will also help you to understand the area and provide helpful advice if you ask for it. Ahmet Efendi is in a working class neighborhood of close knit families, with children playing in narrow cobble-stoned streets; men sipping tea, talking, or playing cards at coffee houses or markets; women doing chores or talking in courtyards. Resturants and the Blue Mosque are minutes away from the front door. The rooms are comfortable and the breakfast is plentiful and tasty. Tea or coffee are regularly offered to guests. The wireless internet system was undergoing repair while I was there, but the owner made every effort to accomodate me. When I return to Istanbul, Ahmet Evendi will be at the top of my list.

When we arrived in Ahmet Efendi, we were absolutely stunned by the decoration of the hotel: clean, simple with a lot of taste. The bed were very confortable and we felt very much at home. Although very close to the main location (Blue Mosque and Hagi Sofia), the hotel is away from all the tourist shops which we came to appreciate after a long day touring around. The location of Ahmed Efendi gives every thing that could facilitate your stay and make it more enjoyable: Turkish bath, cheap local shops, affordable government restaurant, tramway within walking distance, train less than five minutes away, sea just a couple minutes from the hotel, lots of restaurant with either sea view or with the view of the main attractions in site, walking distance to most activities of the city. All this within Ahmet Efendi and you are in fairly quiet location. It was simply heaven and we had a very good time with both couple, Medhi and his lovely wife giving us very good and helpful advice in addition to a very good welcome. Thank you Mehdi and Gonul and Dilek: we will be back.
