My husband and I stayed at the Poggiarello farm house in one of the 1 bedroom apartments. It was very spacious and had everthing you need. This place is about 20 minutes from San Gimignano and Sienna. When we were driving to the house it was a little scary because of the dirt road. Don't let this discourage you though....as the place is really nice. The dinners here were excellent, some of the best food I have had. There are also several restaurants close by, but you have to drive at night on some tight and dark roads. It is centrally located for wine tasting, although you need to make appointments for every place. It is not as fun as in the California for wine tasting. I suggest buying the wine at a local store and having a picnic at any of the cool little towns in the area. The pool is very big and the place has a Roman bath under the apartments. This was really neat, and was one of the best parts of our stay.
I suggest stopping at a store prior to arriving at the apartments, as once you drive down the dirt road for the day, you probably won't want to do it again that day. Make sure to buy some of the local wine vinegars and olive oils, as they are they very delicious.
I would recommend Antico Borgo Poggiarello to anyone coming to Tuscany. The price/value, location and hospitality of the owners were all excellent.
