Relais I Melograni Bed & Breakfast is run by a friendly Italian/English family in the original part of an old 18th Century villa situated in the countryside between Florence and Pisa.

Relais I Melograni (The Pomegranates) Bed & Breakfast Tuscany, was established in the summer of 2001 and has grown in popularity ever since because of it's beautiful position and economical price offered to travellers. It is owned by a friendly Italian-English family and is in the first and oldest part of an old family villa set in the countryside and surrounded by a typical Tuscan landscape of olive trees and vine groves.The house is at the end of a quiet country road 3km from the local town Empoli.
The location is ideal for a holiday exploring Tuscany and central Italy.

During the summer months breakfast is served in the garden where guests can relax and enjoy the lovely Tuscan views before beginning their daily escursions.
It is not necessary to plan your Tuscany vacation around moving to different lodgings every night. With our central location, you can make I Melograni B&B your headquarters. Empoli is in the centre of Tuscany between Florence and Pisa and is in a perfect position for touring, connected to Florence, Siena, Pisa and the Italian Riviera by good motorways and a reliable and frequent train service.
Siena and San Gimignano are lovely drives across a breathtaking landscape (Siena 1 hour, San Gimignano 40 mins). Lucca is a 1 hour drive and the beautiful beaches of the Italian coastline only 1 hour.
Florence and Pisa airport are only a short ride away.
Florence is a 25 min drive but we recommend guests leave their car at Empoli station and get the train to avoid parking stress in the busy and chaotic city centre.The train ride goes along the river Arno and there are some beautiful views of little hilltop towns.The train takes 25 mins and goes right into Florence centre where it is only a five minute walk to the Duomo,Uffizi and Ponte Vecchio. The train costs 5.50 EURO return.
For those who don�t drive or simply prefer a �car free� holiday, I Melograni B&B is also an ideal base. You can experience the Tuscany countryside, away from the tourists, but still within easy reach of all the major towns by train or bus. We shuttle guests to the station after breakfast at 8.30-8.45 ready to buy tickets and catch trains from Empoli Station to go to Florence, Siena, Pisa, Lucca or San Gimignano.
The ride to the station is less than 10 mins in the car. Guests get a taxi back in the evening which costs about 11 Euro.
The Bedrooms
There are eight bedrooms, all beautifully furnished in charming Tuscan style. Four bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms and four bedrooms share two large bathrooms. (Ideal for groups travelling on a budget)
Breakfast
A typical Tuscany breakfast is included in the price and served in the breakfast room or on the terrace during the summer months. Italian breakfast pastries and Tuscany bread bought fresh from the �pasticceria� early in the morning in the village. Served with real fresh Italian coffee made using a Moka (caffettiera) brewed on a stove. The most popular home method in Italy for a good full-bodied coffee. (Or there is a choice of teas). Also fruit juice, toast, jams and local home made honey. For those who prefer a savory breakfast we can offer Tuscany bread filled with �prociutto ham� and cheese or mozzarella and tomato.
There are maps and travel books available in the breakfast room for guests to use. Riccardo will help you to plan your daily excursions and give advice on places to visit, places to park, scenic routes to take and local events going on in and around the area that he sees in the paper at breakfast time.
LOCAL TRATTORIA�S
There is a nice little trattoria nearby that is very popular with local Italian families and serves typical local dishes in simple surroundings. Huge choice of starters and delicious Pasta's.(particually good is the �Gnocchi alla Valdostana� cheese from the Alps). A nice family atmosphere, very reasonable and busy in the summer.

DIRECTIONS FROM PISA AIRPORT
From PISA AIRPORT take the SUPERSTRADA for FIRENZE (SGC).
Follow the Superstrada until you reach Empoli-Est (you pass by Navacchio, Cascina, Pontedera, Montopoli,Santa Croce, San Miniato, Empoli Ovest) After Empoli Ovest come off at EMPOLI EST;. At the first stop, as soon as you come off the SUPERSTRADA, turn left and follow the directions to SAMMONTANA . After about 1,5 km you will arrive at a little junction with a tall cypress and olive tree in the middle of the road. TURN RIGHT. Follow the signs for VILLA NUOVA (about 3 km) When you arrive at VILLA NUOVA pass through the narrow village (passing a bar on your left) and stop at the STOP sign. Turn left and follow the road with the sign "VIA DI SOTTO POGGIO PER S.DONATO" After 3 km you will see on your right a house with a big wall with "LINEA RINNOVA". painted in red on the wall in big letters.Opposite this wall on your left is a little road called Via dei Granai. Turn into this road. The road is a stoney road and is up hill. After about 300 metres turn left and continue on until you arrive at a group of houses. Turn right and continue on for another 300 metres then right for another 300 metres. You will arrive at a big house with a chapel on your left. The first part of the villa is I Melograni. You can park your car in front of the chapel.
DIRECTIONS FROM FLORENCE
Exit off the AUTOSTRADA from Bologna at FIRENZE SIGNA (you will see the directions sign posted EMPOLI-PISA-LIVORNO). As soon as you come off the Autostrada take the SUPERSTRADA for PISA-LIVORNO. Come off at EMPOLI EST. At the first stop, as soon as you come off the SUPERSTRADA, turn right and follow the directions to SAMMONTANA . The ticket you buy from a kiosk on your right as soon as you come through customs. Tickets are not for sale on the platform. You must stamp your ticket in a machine situated on the platform before boarding the train. Can be fined if you forget. When you arrive at Empoli either take a taxi. |
