| Guestbook: We’d read interesting things about the nearby town of Pezenas – Moliere got his start there, and it used to be the seat of the Dukes of Languedoc back when the region was a separate country from France. So we decided to check it out. It was getting late, so we threw ourselves on the mercy of the Office du Tourisme. They found us a room in a B&B called La Dordine, which turned out to be a gold mine of information and hospitality.
La Dordine (see photos below) is in a 13th-century house that’s mostly vertical, located in what used to be the Jewish quarter of Pezenas. We slept in a loft bedroom right under the roof rafters, which was charming, even if it required a certain adaptability, if you know what I mean. Luckily, we’re both short and still pretty spry, despite our five decades.
La Dordine is run by Veronique and Aurelien, a young couple who’ve lived all over the world. They were very warm and welcoming and shared their knowledge with us unstintingly. They even gave us tips for finding an apartment in the area, and possibly a lead on a house we might rent if we decide to live in the Beziers-Pezenas area. They were wonderful. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a picture of them. I keep forgetting (and I’m a little shy about it, too) to ask the people we meet to let us get a photo of them.
