Magnac laval is a busy market town of three thousand inhabitants, it is a picturesque town with the church of St Eglise dominating the skyline, there are all facilities you would need for your holiday there.
Six Café ¢ars, two having resturants and two sell cigarettes and one is a bookmakers.
There is a Eco-marche supermarket, two pharmacies and several hairdressers and two banks, and a small Market on a Thursday, there is also a post office and several breadshops.
In the summer there are loads of lovely walks around Magnac Laval, you can get a permit and go fishing in the local river (20 yards) from Sunset House or the local lake (1 km).
You can hire a bike from us and go for miles, take a picnic and spend the day on your bikes!
You can take a evening stroll and go to one of the local bars and have an evening drink.
The Surrounding Area.
The area offers peace and tranquillity, country walks, fishing, golf, cycling and horse riding all year round, plus the chance to enjoy French rural charm in local villages and towns. Lake Vassiviere is just 30 minutes drive away for summer picnics and swimming. Winter sports are available within a 2 hour drive at Mont d'Or.
People in Limousin are proud of the fantastic food produced here, especially the beef, pork and lamb, and believe in good farming methods. There are also excellent river fish to enjoy (especially if you've caught them yourself!). Many regional specialities use the wide variety of mushrooms common here, as well as chestnuts, walnuts and fruit. The liqueurs made from pears, prunes, chestnuts and walnuts are strong and delicious. Puddings are mouth-watering, and clafoutis with its creaminess and contrasting tartness of the cherries really is very good. Treipaï³ is the pudding for the chocolate lover, made with chocolate and chestnuts, on a biscuity sort of base, traditionally made in a triangular shape.
In Limousin, you won't encounter the usual tourist crowds found in other regions, but you will enjoy yourself far more and see a glimpse of the "real" France.
Haute Vienne has it all!
Lush green rolling countryside, hills and valleys, an abundance of woodland, wildlife and lakes and rivers which stretch out westwards from the Massif centrale range of mountains. The climate is one of long hot summers interspersed with short but sometimes violent thunderstorms, and short cold winters.
The capital of the Haute-Vienne and also the Limousin is Limoges, the liveliest town, with a cosmopolitian feel to it, packed with boutigues, bars and restaurants. It is also the home to Limoges University and porcelin making industry.
Limoges has good links to the rest of France and the UK, with its train station, major road links and its airport (Ryan Air fly direct to London Stanstead). |
