Named after the ebony art deco panelling of this imposing property’s drawing room, Le Macassar sits on a square in the town of Corbie (near Amiens) in Picardy, Northern France. Synonymous with the battles of WW1, today visitors view the nearby war memorials and enjoy the area’s outdoor pursuits as well impressive gothic architecture. Amiens cathedral is the largest gothic cathedral in the world and a world heritage site.
The comfortable and stylish property boasts original art deco and art nouveau interiors, furniture and art. Guests are encouraged to enjoy all of the public rooms as well as the formal courtyard garden.
There are five lounge areas; the Majorelle library (attributed to the famous cabinet maker); the Moroccan salon resplendent in elaborate tile-work; the ‘Gallery’ with macassar panelling and grand piano; the dining room where breakfast is served (at a time to suit you, not us!); and the art deco billiard room.
Spacious guest rooms and suites are comfortably furnished with a mix of antique and modern furniture, quality beds, feather pillows, duvets and linens, decadent en-suite bathrooms (several with whirlpool baths), fireplaces, and CD players.
