Guestbook: We just got back from visiting St. John "on a budget" and had a wonderful experience at The Tamarind. NO - it is not a Resort Hotel, but it is a cute little property that has been on St. John for over 40 years. We liked being so close to town and compared to the costs of things on the island, felt the rooms and food to be reasonably priced. Our room was decorated like the tropics, but Airconditioned... which we found out was considered a luxury, since majority of the residents don't even have A/C. The bathroom was a little small, but the daily housekeepers kept everything clean and we did not have any issues with water pressure. We met lots of regulars socializing at the bar, who told us all about the island. Some of them had been frequenting the Tamarind for over 25 years and had wonderful stories about the place and how it's changed over the years. The staff was very nice from the moment we walked into the courtyard. The girl working in the office helped us plan some day trips and went above and beyond in assisting us with changing our flights. Overall it was a really nice trip and the Tamarind felt like a place we had been going to for years - we can't wait until our next visit.
