Macau Local History

Macau, formerly a Chinese territory under Portuguese administration, became a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People's Republic of China on December 20, 1999, with a high degree of autonomy, except in the areas of defense and foreign policy. Macau retains its own currency, laws, and border controls. Facilities for tourism are well developed.

Macau is a real shopper’s paradise place where one can purchase most kinds of merchandise at often better prices than in nearby cities, especially luxury items.

Bargain items - items that are very reasonably priced are jewellery (particularly gold), chinese antiques, porcelain, electronic items, mobile phones, watches, cashmere sweaters and silk clothing.
