Almost surrounded by orange groves and nestling under the Safor mountains, our apartment is in the small town of Palma de Gandia on the Costa del Azahar of the "Orange Blossom Coast" 5kms (10 mins by car) from Gandia & Oliva and the beautiful golden Blue Flag beaches.
The property is in a very small cul de sac in the quiet historic part of the town with lots of winding lanes and passages.
Just off one of the small squares, our holiday home has an L shaped living area with vaulted beamed ceilings and is believed to be over 100 years old. Recently renovated, we have tried to keep the old world charm by retaining many of the traditional Valencian features.
The wide Valencian doorway opens onto a large hallway where there is seating to catch the summer breeze: there is a further sitting area (with reverse action air con) and formal dining area completes the open plan. There are two bedrooms, 1 double (with ceiling fan) and 1 twin bedroom both with ample storage and a fully tiled bathroom with shower. The fitted kitchen opens onto a large private walled garden/patio which has small shrubs and trees with garden furniture and a gas BBQ.
Gandia is the largest town in the la Safor area of the Costa del Azahar and is steeped in Roman and Medieval history and we are convenient for all the famous castles/palaces/art galleries, Theme/Safari/Water Parks and places of interest.
The local bakery is just two minutes away where you can get warm bread for the morning and the butcher is just round the corner where there are chairs for you to sit and practice your Spanish on the locals. There is a telephone kiosk in the square and next to the butcher is a small supermarket.
In the evening you can meander through the passage ways and discover the cafes and bars or stroll down to the river. There are a couple of bars that provide evening meals (including Chinese food) and 15 minutes walk away is the family restaurant "Aventura" where Mama makes delicious home made food and square pizza.
For larger shopping there is a Carrefour hypermarket in Gandia and other large supermarkets in both Oliva and Gandia.
Gandia has a sophisticated feel with its wide tree lined paseo with cafes and shops and the historic part is traffic free where there are cafe/bars and shops. The Cathedral and the Borgia Palace are definitely worth visiting. The Palace which has a beautiful interior was the Ducal home of the infamous Borgia family (Rodrigues Borgia later became Pope Alexander VI, father of Cesere and Lucretia) There are other beautiful medieval buildings in the city which is an ideal place for people watching. Gandia Playa with its wide sandy Blue Flag beaches is just 1km away from the city. Just outside the town is the 18 hole golf course designed by Severiano Ballesteros.
Oliva old town dates back to the Moors and is dominated by the old ruined castle of Santa Ana from where you can get magnificent views of the coast. Oliva too has many excellent beaches which stretch for miles, some of which have beach sports and some quite rustic and edged with sand dunes and tamerisk trees. There is approximately 17kms of beaches one for every day of your holiday.
Some of the more interesting towns are the historic town of Xativa (where Hannibal and Rodrigues Borgia lived) and Elche with its ancient palm forest, museums and Basilica. The city is also famous for its manufacture of shoes so you can shop till you drop at the many shoe outlets on the edge of the city. Peniscola although a good day out is famous for the film "El Cid" and there are medieval towns such as Bocairent with its cave houses and Cullera. Nearby are the Theme, Safari and Water Parks near Benidorm and Valencia is easily accessible by train which winds its way through vineyards, orange groves and rice fields. We have lots of fact sheets which have been prepared to whet your appetite to visit our area.

Guestbook: Hello Anne, this mail to tell you that our holidays were fine, the
apartment is very nice and there was no problem. It was hot but it was all
right ( when we left France the temperature was higher than in Spain ).
We went to Costa blanca ( altea, javea, Calpe...) it was wonderful and
we often went to the beach Terranova in Oliva ( the best for us because
it was a rustic beach and there were not many people). We also went to
Xativa. All informations in the house about the area were very useful
for us. Your friend was very kind. Veronique & Family – Villeneuve-sur-lot
We`ve had a wonderful time in Palma de Gandia, the house is very cosy and well equipped, the patio is so pleasant to have breakfast and dinner, moreover the place is very quiet... we
really enjoyed it. The welcome was good since Deryk arrived as soon as we rang him and
he`s been very nice to us. Sophie & Party –Mlle BONNEFIS SOPHIE

Croissants and sea and sun, busy market, of spanish way of life are the secret."
