Bairro Alto is the best known part of Lisbon. Everybody has heard or read about this popular and busy hilltop district laid out in the 16th century. Forming a grid of narrow and cobbled streets, this part of the city has become very fashionable for its bars, fashion stores, restaurants, Fado houses and galleries, which stay open until early morning when other less trendy shops start their business.
All of Lisbon seams to be so close by; you can easily walk to Principe real and Estrela or go down to Chiado, Rossio or Baixa. Don’t miss the best glimpse over the eastern side of Lisbon from the Belvedere São Pedro de Alcantara which is side by side with the Elevador Da Gloria; a very steep cable car that goes to Avenida da Liberdade-Restaradores. |
