Essaouira Travel Guide
Darb Laaouj al-Attarin - The museum features displays of jewellery, costumes and weapons.
Skala du Port - For a very relaxing outing, you can go for a walk along the ramparts on the seaward part of town. The Skala du Port was originally designed to protect the town's sea trade and today features the most amazing views over the busy fishing port.
Galaie d'Art - Essaouira is home to a number of European artists, some of those now live in the old town. The galary is run by Fredieric Damgaard where he displays his art work.
Horse Riding and Horse Trekking in Essaouira in Morocco For those who like horse riding, I advise to try some horse rides in the surrounding of Essaouira with Zouina-cheval. They also propose horse treks from 2 to 6 days. The team is really good and you will experience the countryside and gorgeous beaches and dunes, visit small traditionnal village, ... Their arabian horses are very good and beautifull!! If you want to have a look, here is their link: www.zouina-cheval.com

Restaurant La Decouverte The Restaurant La Decouverte have chosen to use only fresh products and to put only these on the menu. Our menu is therefore restrained. Everything is home made, and they hope that you will feel at home. La decouverte, 8 bis, rue Houmman, ¢Ï 024 47 31 58. If you are tired of tagines, dissapointed by italian-moroccan pasta, give La Decouverte a try. A french couple cooks with moroccan ingredients, moroccan like recipes but with french hand. Nice atmosphere, correct prices. Go for it mains 50dh - 80dh.

Sam's Seafood Sam's. Situated right at the end of the harbour, next to the entrance for the fishing cutters. An excellent place to eat. The seafood is so fresh and delightfully prepared. I never miss a chance to eat there when I'm in Essouira.
Try the mixed fried fish plate, the stuffed squid (calamar farci) or the fresh shrimps in butter provencial. Warning: the portions are big, so a starter is not really necessary;
Open for lunch 11:30 - 15:00, dinner 17:50 until the last guest leaves. Excellent Moroccan wine selection. Try the Gazelle. Iced beers also available. Very reasonable prices.

Essaouira is the main centre at which to buy superb quality thuya carvings. The main selling point for carvers is under the Scala de la Ville, where the people are very accomodating and allow you to browse the area without any obligation to make a purchase.
You can also expect to find many craft shops in the area selling an impressive range of goods. Situated between Place Prince and Moulay Hassan street, you will find carpet and rug stores, as well as shops selling a wide variety of jewellery and brass items.
There is a lovely beach which stretches 10 km down the coast to the sand dunes of Cap Sim. What makes it really extraordinary is the visible ruins of an old fortress, a pavillion, which today is partially covered in sand and the wreck of a ship.
Essaouira - has also become a very popular destination for windsurfing. Fanatic Fun centre, located just before the Hotel Tafoukt, is a well equipt store which rents out windsurfing equipment. They also organisse horse-riding excursions along the beach toward Cap Sim.

Restaurant L'Horloge - This restaurant is tucked away on a shady square close to the walls of the old town. It is very popular with tourists, where you can get the best mint tea and very tasty traditional Morrocon meals.
Restaurant Essalam - A stunning restaurant which offers delicious meals at a very affordable price. The restaurant is also very popular with foreigners and locals alike, deservblly so, as they serve exceptionally delicious tajine.
