Overview

Casa 579 is a stylish boutique guesthouse located in Santa Teresa, the famous art and cultural district of Rio de Janeiro. With an amazing roof terrace with 180 degree views of the Cristo Redentor, Sugar Loaf Mountain and Guanabara Bay and excellent facilities, Casa 579 not only offers the best view in Rio, but the perfect place to stay to avoid the souless high rise hotels of Copacabana and Ipanema and experience the “real” Rio.
Lapa, famous for its Samba clubs and home to Rio's nightlife and the downtown business district are a 10 minute bus, taxi or tram ride away and the famous sights of Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf Mountain and the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema are just 15 minutes away. Transport stops right outside the house to take you to all the places you need to go (bus, tram or kombi).
The house has been the site of fashion shoots and TV documentaries thanks to the stunning views (as you will see when you see the Cristo, Sugar Loaf Mountain and Guanabara Bay from our panoramic roof terrace). The house also has a relaxing and comfortable lounge area, and a great choice of accommodation from spacious private rooms through to our deluxe shared room.
We are also are very privileged to have some interesting residents in our grounds…a family of monkeys and a toucan often pop by, see if you can spot them in the trees from the breakfast area!
Many of the rooms have views to either the Cristo, Sugar Loaf Mountain or both and are very spacious with high ceilings. Some of our rooms have a terrace with hammocks from which you can enjoy the view to the Sugar Loaf Mountain. Our deluxe shared (dorm) room has 7 beds and is ideal for those who want comfort & style on a budget. It is a huge shared room with single beds (no bunk beds here!) and each bed has an individual lockable bookcase / unit. There is also an ensuite bathroom & walk-in closet.
Finally, our roof-top terrace provides the perfect place to grab some sun or enjoy the 180 degree views whilst enjoying one of Brazils’ famous Caipirinhas.

Location & area

Casa 579 is located in Santa Teresa which is a unique part of Rio. With its cobbled streets, colonial mansions and the old fashioned Bonde tram, it appears to have stopped in time. It has a fantastic mix of architecture and lots of lush vegetation. With museums, great restaurants and local bars full of character, atmosphere and plenty of live music, it is also just minutes from the city centre and Lapa, the famous Rio nightlife hotspot. The home of artists, writers and creative types since as long ago as the 19th century, it was also home to many Rio luminaries, including the men behind the first railway in Brazil and the Christ the Redeemer statue itself. It is also less segregated than other parts of Rio, with rich and poor living in closer proximity and more harmoniously than other areas of Rio.Nowadays, Santa Teresa is Brazils first environmentally protected urban area. It is also a designated sustainable tourism area, with tourism activities focused upon preserving the beautiful natural and historical environment and promoting socio-economic equality. The Yellow Bonde (Tram) that runs between Santa Teresa and the city centre, originally horse drawn in the 19th Century, is now the only remaining tram network in South America, and still an integral mode of transport for the local community.
Casa 579 is easily reached from both Lapa, the hub of Rio's Samba clubs and Bars and Largo do Machado.
