Location & area
The Indian term Tapalque means naked sierra or hill. The town of Tapalque was founded in 1863 on the fields chosen by a local commission of neighbors. In those times the nearest towns were those of Azul and Las Flores while the towns of Bolívar and Olavarría did not exist back then.
The Governor of Buenos Aires, Mariano Saavedra, signed a decree on November 7th, 1863 through which the town of Tapalque was officially founded.
These were the lands where the famous Cacique Catriel (Indian Chief Catriel) settled down with his followers and Indian troops roamed the area and frequently showed up at La Margarita in search of food, drink and rest for their horses. Back then, the estancia participated actively in the lives of the indians and my family still keeps many stories that have been passed on by my ancestors and which I will be more than happy to share with you when you visit us at La Margarita.
