The Alden House offers the finest in elegant, yet cozy lodging accommodations. 7 gracefully appointed guest rooms are decorated with selected period antiques, each with its own unique attributes of days gone by to spark your personal fancy. Choose from The Hiram Alden Room, which is spacious and breathtaking in size, color and ambiance. It features a working fireplace with original soft blue Italian tile framed by a 7 ½ foot had carved cherry mantle, a burled walnut 4 poster queen with feather bed, en-suite private bath and original marble sink in a separate alcove which is perfect for your romantic interlude. Delight in the enchanting Penobscot Room with its pencil post canopy queen and featherbed, pink marble fireplace, rich burgundy Rococo chairs and a Homer Winslow ocean print bringing the sea into your room. 5 inviting and charming rooms offer en-suite private baths, and two share a large bathroom. One with all the attributes including a queen featherbed, original marble sink in a cozy alcove, and the other, two single antique feather beds with décor of muted colors and period photographs which are prefect rooms for families or guests traveling together. Rooms offer the finest accoutrements for your enjoyment including sumptuous linens, gourmet chocolates, views of our lovely and spacious grounds, signature glycerin soaps, bathing lotions, and all the comforts of home.

Wake up to the aroma of freshly ground gourmet coffees and gourmet teas ready for early-bird risers. A full, scrumptious three course breakfast is served in the dining room with sample signature dishes such as baked eggs with Havarti and dill, homemade granola, Peaches and Crème Brulee French toast, Lemon Soufflé pancakes, succulent and delightful fresh local fruits with crème fraiche, blueberry breads, raspberry lemon streusel muffins, cinnamon pecan Belgian waffles, and lobster stuffed crepes! Features incorporate many local Maine products. Afternoon tea is served with fresh baked scones, biscotti and the innkeepers choice of the day. Gourmet hot chocolate is available for the colder months to warm the soul, and ice teas and lemonade during the summer to quench the thirst after guests' daylong travels. Special dietary requirements are met with advance notice.

Guests saunter to the historic waterfront and town several blocks away and can enjoy yet another town walking tour, “The Museum in the Streets” describing Belfast's colorful history settled by Scots Irish pioneers. Sears Island, less than 15 minutes away, is the largest uninhabited island on the east coast. It sports a paved causeway from the mainland to the island. Trails and paths invite you to enjoy a variety of wildlife; bird watching galore and perhaps you will spy a moose! A bike riding daytrip will be enjoyed by the whole family.

Mid-Coast has the original Fort Knox, built to thwart a British invasion and named after Henry Knox, our first Secretary of War in Washington's cabinet. Bring a picnic to enjoy on the grounds, explore the nooks and crannies of the fort, and marvel at the fast flowing river on which the fort is built.

Islesboro divides the Penobscot Bay in two is accessible by car and ferry. The ferry departs the mainland from Lincolnville Beach. It is 11 miles long and has more than twenty miles of roads, two lighthouses, and a typical country store. The best way to see the Island is by bike. A fabulous view of the bay!
