Overview

This tropical home features open-beamed ceilings and panoramic tropical and ocean views. You can see the lights from a passing cruise ship at night from the lanai! There's a full kitchen, generous living and dining area opening onto the lanai, a queen-bed bedroom and bath. For extra guests, the second bedroom has two double beds. And for your evenings, there's a Satellite TV/VCR, a nice stereo with CD and tape players, an assortment of video and audio tapes and CD's, and for those who would rather curl up with a book, there are lots to choose from.

Outside in a gazebo near the house is a full-featured spa for your relaxation and enjoyment!

The kitchen is fully equipped with a microwave, blender, coffee maker, range, fridge and all cooking and dining needs. This home is thoughtfully and tastefully appointed to make it feel like your very own home-in-Paradise.

Located in a quiet, ocean-front, gated community with easy accessibility to Kapoho Bay and the ocean itself, there are several calm lagoons for swimming and snorkeling. Some of the lagoons are even heated by geothermal fresh-water springs! A guide-map at the house will direct you to all the best spots. Champagne Pond is a 15-minute walk from the property.

Kapoho is a beautiful place—a peaceful and quiet place that's perfect for those who want no part of “tourist hawai.” We try our best to make it very clear that there are few tourist accommodations near here. We have many beautiful swimming spots on or near the ocean, a couple of sandy beaches near Hilo and a beautiful scenic drive to the other side of the island will let you discover even more of the lovely beaches on our island.

We chose Pualani in Kapoho as our vacation home for the very reason that there is very little tourist traffic here and that this is one of the last places on the islands that is still considered “real Hawaii.”

If you have already experienced “tourist Hawaii” and are ready for something different, you might like this. If you would like to feel what it would be like to be here among the folks who live here, work here, play here and raise their families here, you will find this area a true adventure. If you like hiking, snorkeling, exploring, and are looking for a real tropical get-a-way, you'll love it.

This is rustic, rural Hawaii at its best. You can experience the most beautiful, unspoiled tropical surroundings imaginable. Languish in the naturally heated warm pond five minutes away, snorkel in our crystal clear tide pools or take a breathtaking ride down the Rd Road to beautiful Kehena Beach (clothing optional) 20 minutes away. No matter what your choices are, you will be richly rewarded with taste after taste of our roads less traveled.

Pahoa, our nearest town about 8 miles away, is a funky little village of colorful people doing their thing. There are fun little shops to visit and we have some of the best offerings of restaurants on this side of the island. You will find superbly prepared Thai, Italian Tuscany style, Bueno Mexican food to name a few with funky décor, casual ambiance and a delightful surprise of wonderful cuisine. The new Malama Market at the north end of town in the new shopping center has everything you might need! The Pahoa Olympic size swimming pool is free to the public!

There is a Sunday Pahoa Farmer's Market where you can find just about every kind of local veggie and fruit, and many prepared offerings…and if you're in the mood, indulge in an open air massage. Every Saturday and Sunday, just north of Pahoa you will find the Maku'u Farmer's Market which is bigger than the Pahoa Market where you will find arts, crafts, jewelry, plants, surfboards, locally hand-made items, and of course lots of locally grown fruits, vegetables, and food and drink prepared right there for you!

If you would like to venture out and explore even more of the Big Island, indulge in some trips to Volcanoes National Park, Lava Tree State Park, Waipio Valley, Hilo Town, or even a beautiful 2 ½ hour drive to Kona on the other side of the island.

We welcome you to our area of real Paradise!

Location & area

Kapoho is a beautiful, peaceful and quiet place that's perfect for those who want no part of "tourist Hawaii." It is a small, friendly community that's also the sunniest spot on the Windward side of the Big Island. The nights bring a little rain, and the days are generally sunny and bright. We get to see some great winter storms, and the ocean definitely speaks more loudly during the winter months.
If you have already experienced "tourist Hawaii" and are ready for something different, you will appreciate this. If you would like a taste of what it would be like to live among the folks who spend their lives here, work here, play here and raise their families here, you might find this interesting. If you're into hiking, swimming, snorkeling, exploring, and just Being, you'll love it.

No White Sand Beaches
We like to make it very clear that there are no tourist attractions anywhere near here! This is rural Hawaii! The only "real beach" nearby is Kehena, which is a small black-sand beach accessible down a short-but-steep trail. But there are lots of what we call "beach accesses". "Beach access" means that it's easy and safe to get into the water, but it does not imply that there is a traditional sandy beach. There is ample and wonderful water-access with a delightful variety of offerings: a huge 90+ degree, geothermally tidal pond; tide-pools that offer amazing snorkeling experiences and lots of great spots for safe swimming and surfing.
What you do get here is rural Hawaii at its best. You get to experience the most beautiful, unspoiled tropical surroundings imaginable. From languishing in the geothermally heated warm pond (5 minutes away) to snorkeling in our crystal clear tide pools or taking a short ride down to beautiful Kehena Beach, you will be richly rewarded with taste after taste of our roads less traveled.
Our nearest town, Pahoa, is a quaint little village that time seems to have forgotten. You'll find Old-West style buildings with wooden sidewalks dating back 100 years, and a great variety of resources for residents and travelers alike. No tourist trappings here, either, but we do have some of the finest restaurants on the Island. Thai, Tuscany Italian, natural-foods, bueno Mexican and the best "hole-in-the-wall" take-out Chinese that you can imagine! Funky ambiance with a delightful surprise of wonderful cuisine.
We have a Sunday Farmer's Market that sometimes features live music, and just the people watching is worth the trip. It's as much a social event as a marketplace. Of course, you can also find about every kind of local veggie and fruit, plus a lot of prepared offerings, too. And just in case you're in the mood, how about an open-air massage?

If you would like to venture out and explore more of the Big Island from here, you can take some day trips to Volcanoes National Park, Waipio Valley, beautiful and friendly Hilo town or even a scenic 2 ½ hour drive to Kailua-Kona on the other side of the island. Also on the other side of the Island, the coastline from Kailua Town up to Hawi (at the northern tip of the Island) has some of the most fantasic white sand beaches you'll ever see, and Hawi itslef is a very special artist's community featuring some of the best galleries and the famous Bamboo Restaurant. The Island also has abundant hiking trails with all sorts of spectacular destinations.
If this sounds like the kind of Paradise you're looking for, we'd like to extend our welcome and Aloha to you!
