This is your property ?
If you are looking for a wheelchair accessible holiday villa in Orlando with access for the disabled (handicapped), then you have found an ideal place to stay.
Our luxurious, wheelchair accessible holiday villa is situated in the new and exclusive gated community of The Abbey, West Haven, Orlando, Florida. We are ideally located just a few miles from all of Orlando's main attractions. It also has excellent facilities should you simply wish to relax in Florida's year round sunshine. So whether you are here for the Theme Parks, attractions, or relaxation, you've found an ideal base for your vacation here in Florida. The villa accommodation is ideal if you are disabled (handicapped), elderly or infirm in any way; there is flat access throughout and no steps to worry about.
We chose our villa for its location but also for its privacy. The villa is set in a nature conservation area and backs on to orange groves, ensuring that it is not overlooked, unlike many other rental villas.
The communal areas of The Abbey development have been beautifully landscaped and the 'sidewalks' have been finished in block paving. Victorian style street lamps complete the feeling of style.
Our wheelchair accessible villa is very spacious and comprises a master double bedded room with en-suite bath and wheel-in shower room, second double bedded room with en-suite bath/shower room, 2 twin bedded rooms (one decorated in a Mickey Mouse theme), bathroom with bath/shower, kitchen, dining area (table seats 8), breakfast bar with stools, living area, utility room, double garage, covered lanai (porch), pool bathroom and heated, screened pool with hoist.
There are many villas in the region which have been supposedly designed for the disabled, but not by a wheelchair user or someone with a disability (handicap).
Being a full time wheelchair user myself, I discussed what features I required with the builder before the villa was built. I have paid particular attention to make the whole villa suitable for the disabled (handicapped) i.e. wheelchair users and those with walking difficulties. Most doors are 36'' wide, there is a wheel-in shower (with built in shower seat and hand held shower) and accessible bath in the master en-suite bathroom. The second en-suite bathroom and other bathroom are also wheelchair accessible. There is level access at the front door, out to the covered lanai/pool deck and from the garage. The electrically operated garage door also has a remote control opener. The whole of the pool deck is wheelchair accessible. And it is also possible to get under the dining table, kitchen sink and bathroom sink! As you can imagine it is wheelchair friendly. It is also suitable for those with walking difficulties and who are handicapped. Click here for more info.
I know from personal experience that accessible accommodation is difficult to find, so I'm sure that the villa will meet most people's needs without being too clinical.
Our villa has its own private screened and heated pool. There is a pool hoist in the centre of the deck, adjacent to the steps, giving easy access to the pool. The hoist is hydraulic and is extremely easy to use. The pool screen is a fine mesh, which allows the sun through, but stops leaves, insects, etc from entering the pool. Independent wheelchair access to the pool deck can be gained from the dining area; able bodied guests can also gain access from the living area and master bedroom. The pool contains a light which enables its use at night should you feel the urge.
The rear of the villa and pool area is south facing and backs on to orange groves (it is not overlooked), thereby maintaining privacy. Not all Orlando villas offer views of orange groves as far as one can see; many offer a view of another pool! Eagles can often be seen circling overhead.
We specifically chose to have the large covered lanai on the east of the property, providing an escape from the heat of the sun if required.
We have furnished the villa to a high standard. In addition to air conditioning throughout, the bedrooms, living area and covered lanai all have ceiling fans. The kitchen is fully equipped including range cooker, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer with ice maker and water, waste disposal, coffee maker, dinner service, kitchen utensils, glasses, cutlery, etc. There is cable T.V. in the living area and two master bedrooms; the living area also has a DVD player and video recorder plus a radio/tape/C.D. player. The separate utility room has a washing machine, drier, vacuum cleaner, iron and ironing board. A telephone is located in the kitchen area and front bedroom; local calls are free. There is also a hairdryer in the master bedroom. Please note that the voltage in the States is 110V.
The covered lanai is equipped with table and chairs and the pool deck with loungers, two of which are of raised height to make transfers easier.
Each bedroom has ample wardrobe and drawer space. There are also numerous other cupboards throughout the villa.
Our wheelchair accessible villa covers nearly 2,000 square feet of living space and with the two master bedrooms makes it ideal for two families to share.
This is our holiday home and we have a management company to ensure it is professionally maintained inside and out. Any problems, they are on call 24 hours a day.
All towels and bed linen are provided. Electricity, water, utilities, cleaning, pool maintenance, gardener and free local telephone calls are included.
We have provided a selection of books, games and C.D.'s for use whilst staying in the villa. We also have a folder containing details of attractions, restaurants, things to do, etc.
In accordance with Florida State Law, the villa is equipped with smoke alarms and emergency lighting. There are alarms on all doors leading to the pool deck, which are useful to warn if children stray on to the pool deck unaccompanied.
The villa is covered by insurance and complies with all the regulations associated with short term letting.
If you require any equipment such as a rolling rehab shower chair, hoist, etc we can provide details of companies who will hire them.
Compare the costs between our villa and hotel accommodation in Orlando. It can be rented for considerably less than it would cost to stay in a hotel, making it an ideal choice for an inexpensive holiday. You also get all the benefits of your own home, unlike the impersonal hotel room. There is much more space and all the personal items you don't get in a hotel. Why not try a wheelchair friendly villa for the disabled in the Orlando area of Florida.
Some feedback from Peggy in Canada:
I had planned to email you immediately upon my return, but have yet to catch my breath since arriving home!
THE HOUSE WAS FABULOUS!!!! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, with the only complaint being the difficulty in getting my seven year old niece out of the pool, especially since everyday was sunny and hot. The location and privacy was perfect, and the orange grove provided us with some wonderful bird watching, to say nothing of nature's own air freshener. The scent was intoxicating. We all bonded with the resident lizard that we fondly named Larry. It was great fun watching it maintain it's pool screen territory. Sadly, the week was over all too soon and we headed back to Canada where we all promptly developed colds and sniffles. We've lost track of the number of times we've mentioned that we wish we were back in Florida!
Roger, I must also comment on how well maintained and clean your property management company keeps your house and property. I work in property management, and recognize the great job they are doing, especially in light of the number of rentals they prepare for. It was a pleasure to arrive to a house that lived up to, and surpassed all of our expectations. The house and pool made our vacation really special, and we so appreciate being able to rent it. Already I've heard rumblings about a return visit, and look forward to receiving a brochure! We so enjoyed the house that we changed our original plans so that we could stay "home" more."

Important Notice : Avoiding Fraud
It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:
- It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
- If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
- Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.
