When we travel, we like to get the feel of a place and adapt to its culture, so you won't find us staying at a Sheraton or eating at Burger King. We were not disturbed by the evening music from the cultural center below, or the occasional rumble of a truck on the street outside, or the rooster calling up the dawn, for they were part of the local soundtrack.
The quirks make this place special. Walking outdoors between kitchen and bedroom started out a curiosity and became a ceremony. The bedroom has its own balcony that catches the breeze and seems to float above the river. The nights were colder than we expected, and with no heat, we needed sweaters, and an extra blanket on the bed, so do check the weather report. We had a charming experience and would enjoy returning.

Important Notice : Avoiding Fraud
It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:
- It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
- If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
- Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.

As soon we arrived, we simply fell in love. As we relaxed on the terrace, with all of our senses delighted – gazing at the spilling scarlet pink bougainvillea that drapes the home, the sun that radiates from the pure white facade of the house that touches and warms the terracotta tiles and of course our shoulders...so many guilty pleasures await. The home rises above the beautiful and peaceful Rio Cuale where you listened to the water brush over the rocks and greet the magnificent iguana who occasionally occupies one of the trees below the property that shades the river. The home opens onto an expansive view of Old Town and the hills of Puerto Vallarta and lends the best opportunity for viewing the spectacular PV sunsets. The winding cobblestone road that leads you to this secret and magical place is enchanting and also affords spectacular views along the way. These intense joys frame the deeper pleasures of life in Mexico…a life we yearn for.
The owner, Thea knew when we were scheduled to arrive and waited to give us a special welcome. From the moment we arrived, she was most generous in both her time and spirit. Thea was the quintessential, professional host. That's the beauty of Casa Cascadas and why we recommend it to anyone who wants a special experience in visiting one of Puerto Vallarta glorious "hidden" treasures. Our stay was food for the soul.
It was hard to say goodbye to Thea who has become very near and dear to us.
Thea, we think of you with great thankfulness and affection and wanted to thank you for the privilege and special opportunity of getting to know you and staying at your wonderful Casa Cascadas!
