Overview

Our home, just outside of the downtown core of Oaxaca, has all the comforts and services of Oaxaca hotels combined with the personal touch and quaintness of a country inn...the "real Mexico", and the ultimate in bed and breakast Oaxaca because of the uniqueness. Enjoy all the privacy you want, with your own entrance, while at the same time having unfettered access to Alvin and Arlene as your personal resources, able and willing to assist you in planning out your days, provide valuable information regarding museums, ruins, art galleries and the villages and sites and other tips not encountered elsewhere, some of which are contained in our comprehensive guest guide. The fabulous views of the valley and mountains are seen from the landscaped patio (20' x 22'), fully equipped eat-in kitchen with comfy cot for snoozing (14' x 15') and your spacious bedsittingroom (19' x 13')with queen bed (same quality as ours), futon, cable TV with DVD, 3 piece wicker settee, night tables, etc. The extra bedroom is small and mainly for children (fullsize bunk beds). We even have a crib with all accessories, high chair, car seat and stroller. Washroom is 3 piece. Request photos of the vistas and rooms...please. Our tourguiding services are unique in that we design daily tours based upon your specific interests so you're not cramped inside a tour bus or van with 11 others, and aren't captive to the strict itinerary of the tour company and its driver. We'll economize your time and cost, with no doubling back or padding. Perhaps visit the craft towns such as San Bartolo Coyotepec (black pottery), Arrazola (alebrijes), Teotitlan del Valle (rugs), Atzompa (green glazed pottery); ruins (Mitla, Yagul, San Jose el Mogote); el Tule; or even the more obtuse offerings such as Hierve el Agua and the mezcal factories. We'll even take you on a full day trip deep into the mountains to visit and sample from the mom and pop traditional mezcal operations. Casa Machaya provides private cooking lessons by one of Oaxaca's preeminent native Mexican chefs. Enjoy a colorful trip to the market to buy produce and meats, return to our large traditional cocina where our chef awaits you to chat, joke, assist her (with translation), imbibe and cook, and then sit down to an exquisite and wonderfully flavorful comida centering on one of the seven famous mole recipes. Oaxaca is our passion, and our aim is to make your vacation as culturally rich and informative as possible.

Important Notice : Avoiding Fraud

It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:

  • It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
  • If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
  • Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.
