The St Denys Hotel in York has been owned by the same family since it first opened its doors twenty years ago. Throughout this time an international reputation for friendly service has been built.
Many visitors return again and again. We are proud of our reputation and look forward to welcoming you for the first time.

St Denys Hotel has an enviable location within the walls of the historic City of York. It also boasts the rare benefit of an onsite residents car park.
Like all really old cities, York is compact. No place is far from another and no place is hard to find. To get to the real heart of York you need to explore on foot.

St Denys Hotel offers the ideal base from which to explore this beautiful city, at your leisure.
St Denys Hotel was originally the rectory of the ancient parish church of St Denys and has religious associations dating from Roman times. The first Christian church was probably built on the current site before the Norman conquest.A 'Church of St Denys' certainly existed there by 1154 and parts of this Norman church can still be seen in the present building which also contains one of the finest collections of medieval stained glass in York.

The St Denys Hotel caters for all needs, providing a wide range of room options. On offer are: single,double and family standard rooms and the Jorvik suite.
Each room is comfortably decorated and furnished in traditional style. All rooms are fully equipped with ensuite facilities, colour TV, direct dial telephone and beverage making facilities to suit individual needs.

A full English breakfast is freshly cooked by our resident chef and served in our bright and comfortable dining room.

Location & area

York is only a few miles off the A1 London to Edinburgh highway and is easily accessible from the M1 and M62 motorways. Driving time from London or Edinburgh is about 3- 4 hours.
Whichever direction you approach York from you will arrive at the outer ring road. Go onto the ring road and take the shortest circuit to the A1079 York - Hull junction.

Take the turn off signposted York A1079 and then drive along this road for 2.4 miles, until you see the old Bar Walls at the traffic lights. Take the right hand lane, but do not turn right, you can go straight on with the bar on your left (signposted Walmgate access only). 500 yards down Walmgate you will have to turn left on a one way system and you will then see St Denys Hotel on your left. Our residents car park is on the right hand side of the Hotel.
