Overview

Twixtu is a traditional Victorian Cornish cottage, with lovely views of Fowey Harbour from its first floor windows, in this unspoilt corner of Cornwall.



The cottage, which sleeps 7, is decorated and comfortably furnished in keeping with its mid-Victorian character. It is situated high up in the village, just below the main car park, and as a result has panoramic harbour views from three of the bedrooms.



The beautiful coastline and countryside around Polruan is wonderful for walking, beaching and boating, as well as being full of historic interest.



With two open fireplaces, Twixtu is the perfect place for a Cornish self catering holiday at any time of year.



Twixtu has 4 bedrooms on the first floor and a bathroom with a shower over the bath. The front bedrooms comprise a double, a large twin and a single. There is a second double bedroom at the rear.



Downstairs, the central hall has a lounge to one side and dining room to the other, both with cushioned window seats and exposed ceiling beams. The dining room leads into the kitchen and through to the downstairs bathroom, which has an electric shower over the bath.



The cottage has a rear yard and a good size garden to the front. There is a picnic table on the front lawn for al fresco dining.



The cottage is less than 5 minutes' walk to Polruan quay and harbour as well as the village's small range of shops (small supermarket selling bread, milk, vegetables, newspapers etc, gift shop [including post office] & tea shop). The village boasts two popular pubs and a thriving boat yard. From the quay is a regular passenger ferry to Fowey running throughout the day approximately every 15 minutes.

Location & area

The coastline and countryside around Polruan is beautiful and unspoilt, with dramatic cliffs and hidden sheltered beaches, accessible only on foot or by boat. The area is wonderful for walking, beaching or boating, as well as being full of historic interest.



Daphne du Maurier lived at Bodinnick (near the car ferry) and then at Fowey, setting many of her famous novels in around Polruan and Fowey. Now there is a Daphne du Maurier Literary Centre in Fowey and a festival in May of each year. Other famous authors associated with the area include Kenneth Grahame, Leo Walmsely and Sir Authur Quiller-Couch, who was commodore of the Royal Fowey Yacht Club from 1911 until his death in 1944. There is a memorial to Quiller-Couch on the lovely Hall Walk about 15 minutes from Bodinnick.



On either side of Fowey harbour entrance are the ruins of square blockhouses built around 1380, between which a chain was hung to prevent the entry of undesirable ships into the harbour.



The port of Fowey is still busy with large ships coming in to take on china clay cargoes, as well as a multitude of yachts, dinghies and other craft. Fishing and boat trips can be booked from Polruan. You can arrange to sail a traditional Fowey River Dinghy by clicking here.
